Can you tell me what the score is with posting a thread and saying you're only wanting it up for a while then you're going to get it deleted?

Just I was posting on a thread which has now been deleted or hidden until the MN team can take a look at it.

I have no issue with the OP of the thread (just to make that clear!) but they said from the get go that they were going to put the thread up just for a short time and then get it deleted.

I didn't think that was really how it was supposed to work?

Is it possible to get some clarification on this?

Thanks.

Latte I have already said I started another thread Confused

OP posts:
LatteLoverLovesLattes · 07/09/2014 19:28

the thread was useful and it made me realise that I hadn't worked out in my head as much as I needed to what I'd do in a similar situation

Then you are free to start another thread. It was for the OP's benefit, for the OP to get some advice and support. Anyone else benefiting from it is a bonus, that's all.

walkonthewildside · 07/09/2014 19:26

And as far as I can see it's not policy to delete on demand. If it were we would have the ability to delete our own threads.

mathsgsceresit · 07/09/2014 19:26

And I thought Olivia had just said that deletion was a rare thing, not allowed just because I or any other OP want to do it?

Latte I never ever used the word entertainment. And that's not where I was coming from in this thread.

I felt that there was a misunderstanding that threads could be automatically deleted and I wanted to find out what the rules were, because it is annoying to post and have someone be supremely confident that a thread will be deleted as soon as they ask.

OP posts:
walkonthewildside · 07/09/2014 19:25

Of course it's for the 'entertainment of others' It's the internet. Not a private space.

If you can't see it, then I don't know how to explain it to you, but I'll try :)

You are saying it's not policy - whereas MN have followed their policy.

You are saying it's annoying - but if it's allowed you want to do it Confused. So why is it not OK for someone else to do it, but OK for you to do it?

Why shouldn't someone use the biggest parenting website to their best advantage if the people running the website are fine with what is happening?

By parents, for parents for support. Not entertainment of others.

mathsgsceresit · 07/09/2014 19:22

Tank you Olivia, because I think some posters have a misconception as to what the policy is and hopefully things are clearer now.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 07/09/2014 19:21

@mathsgsceresit

Olivia can you clarify please that if a poster says "privacy concerns" then that means automatic delete or not?

There is no such thing as an automatic delete.

mathsgsceresit · 07/09/2014 19:20

Sorry Latte my mistake it was Nikki

following posters including the OP spoke of being annoyed because they were enjoying the thread

OP posts:
TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 07/09/2014 19:18

Right folks, please don't row about this specific thread from today. Given that this is a thread to ask about policy, let's not turn it into a TAAT that has to auto implode.

Suffice to say, we are not about deleting just cos people ask us to BUT we are also not about make life difficult for people either.

Sparklingbrook · 07/09/2014 19:17

This thread has gone a bit bonkers, but hey- Olivia's back. Grin

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 07/09/2014 19:17

Can you please tell me in which of my posts I said you were enjoying the thread?

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 07/09/2014 19:15

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/09/2014 19:14

I'm enjoying this thread.

((Hugs maths)) I have feelings of bonhomie, peace and love.

mathsgsceresit · 07/09/2014 19:13

And what is wrong with any of what I said?

Confused
OP posts:
walkonthewildside · 07/09/2014 19:13

Well hopefully posters who read this thread will take that on board.

Because the OP of the thread this thread refers to obviously thought differently.

mathsgsceresit · 07/09/2014 19:12

But Latte you said I said I was "enjoying" that thread. I never said that.

OP posts:
HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/09/2014 19:12

Fuck understated Maryz.

Please join me in the jumping up and down and screaming won't you.

You have written all of these things -

I've been on a few threads which the OP has stated will be deleted and it is annoying when you've bothered to reply

the thread was useful and it made me realise that I hadn't worked out in my head as much as I needed to what I'd do in a similar situation

it seems to me that threads are deleted at the OP's request and I'd like that clarified. Because if that is the case, then there's a thread I'd love to start if I could be sure that HQ would pull it if I asked them to

The problem I have is that the OP of the thread today, for example, posted with a proviso in the very first post that it would only be up for an hour or two and then they would get it deleted

If you think someone who shouldn't might read a thread, can I gently suggest you choose somewhere other than AIBU in the country's biggest fastest moving parenting site to post it?

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 07/09/2014 19:11

@walkonthewildside

So if a poster starts a thread saying ' I will ask for this to be deleted in their OP. You will delete?

Nope.

Maryz · 07/09/2014 19:11

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/09/2014 19:08

HOLY FUCKING HELL,YOURE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omg!

Olivia never have a litter of babies and leave again. Ever.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 07/09/2014 19:07

In regards to the thread this is referring to. It was an odd thing to read, and no not generally the done thing. I don't think the op of that thread should be berated for wanting it deleted. She wants a balanced opinion but is concerned about repercussions. If the thread isn't deleted than it could certainly be shunted into OTBT.

In regards to the op of this thread. Well she doesn't deserve to be berated either. She found the op a unusual assumption, given what MNHQs usual stance has been on the deletion of threads.

It is however amusing that she has asked in site stuff so HQ will be aware of it and reply but an awful lot of posters have given her definitive and rude answers. Pity they are different.

I suspect the actual definitive reply from MNHQ will be somewhat more measured and polite in tone and response. And I guess that's why they get the blue boxes
