Dear Tech,

Why is this not possible?

Also happy to be a tester if you need more

TacitusMouse · 15/03/2014 20:32

Oh I'd also be happy to be a tester as I'd love the app to work better!

Giraffeski · 11/03/2014 18:21

Thanks :)
I live on my iphone and tablet

JustineMumsnet · 11/03/2014 18:16

I'd imagine a monthly sub but it's not quite nailed down yet - it's something we'll no doubt consult on as part of the testing - and agree it will have to be very good. Have noted your availability for testing (thanks)

Giraffeski · 11/03/2014 18:06

I would like to be a tester please.
I also have no objection in principle to paying for a decent app- but it would have to have much better functionality that the current one.
Would it be a monthly sub or a one off fee for the app?

JustineMumsnet · 05/03/2014 12:47

Hi Oblamov,
Yes, you're quite right, the app is a bit limited and certainly not as good as it should be. Apologies for that.

It's been a bit of a development lesson for us, really - we outsourced the development thinking it would be most cost effective and now we're stuck with a huge bill every time we want to make the smallest change to keep it up to date with the site. Consequently we've decided to do two things:

  1. develop an ad-free native talk app for Mumsnet in-house and charge a subscription for it
  2. develop a really fabulous Talk mobile site with some app-like functionality that contains ads but free to use.

We want to release these things together so that there's an excellent, viable, free version available at the same time as the subscription, ad-free version.

So all that means that it's a bit of a project. I'm hopeful that we are only weeks off putting out a beta version of the app for testing with a group of users, though. Obviously we'll keep you posted on that. Let me know if you'd like to get a first go at it and be part of the testing group to put it through it's paces.

Oblomov · 05/03/2014 06:56

I use the i-phone app. Mostly.
The pictures do not show. And there is nothing to show that a picture has been posted.
No indication at all.

People are chatting about something that you have no idea about.
the thread is totally un-follow-able.

Angry

It totally ruins it for me.

Is utterly utterly total shit.

I mean seriously.
Rubbish

MNHQ?

Are you going to give me the usual drivel of 'sometime soon'?

Am beyond NARKED.

Why can't you upload pictures/photo's in Telly Addicts?
Sparklingbrook · 04/03/2014 07:40

TBF there isn't any trolling in The Litter Tray either-so I can't see why pics can't be allowed there.

Telly Addicts and Sleb Twaddle are made for pics.

Oblomov · 04/03/2014 07:34

Well I'm sorry Kate , but that answer is so weak , it's pathetic.
So, we are making a special request. Please allow it is Telly addicts. Now.

You can do this. Technically. You only haven't because you were worried about trolling. But it is already across some topics.

Do you agree that if all the topics, Telly Addicts is very low risk from trolling?

So do you actually have any valid reasons why it can't be allowed to be used, in Telly Addicts specifically, with immediate effect?

SEXY PORTHOS!!!

BertieBotts · 03/03/2014 17:36

I think the pictures thing was originally a trial hence it's only allowed in certain topics :)

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2014 17:10

Oh no KateS I fear if you don't know you may be one of those young people types. Envy

It's Michael Praed aka Robin of Sherwood in the 80s.

KateSMumsnet · 03/03/2014 16:01

@Sparklingbrook

This is better KateS. Sorry.

I say, who's this bonny chap?

Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2014 15:28

This is better KateS. Sorry.

KateSMumsnet · 03/03/2014 15:18

Hi folks,

Thanks for raising this with us. As others have pointed out (thanks for that btw!), we're holding back on allowing pictures on all topics as we just want to make sure the function isn't going to be abused by trolls and the like.

However, pictures on other topics will be coming at some point in the near future-ish. Sorry we can't give you a firm date. In the mean time please enjoy this picture of Porthos.

Oblomov · 02/03/2014 17:31

MNHQ will you lease look into this, please?

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2014 08:32

I agree that Telly Addicts needs pictures as does The Litter Tray. And I want the allowance upped.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 02/03/2014 08:30

It's true! It doesn't make sense. So often exciting dramas have things going on the background that are MASSIVE give always to the plot and often it's over looked by viewers concentrating on the story. (Doctor Who, Ahses to Ashes, Mad Dogs just to name a few) it would be nice to have the function to be able to point this out to people who may have missed it without having the hassle of using external links. Especially if you are taking a screen cap from it yourself!

There's one site tinypic, that's the only convenient one to use for this purpose and it's still a piss about. Every time you go to it it shows you "images you might like" and there are usually minges and tits. just irritating if there are little eyes running around you while you are doing it.

Oblomov · 01/03/2014 22:10

Well, I still maintain that telly addicts should be ok.
How much trolling does MNHQ think is going to go on, on a thread dedicated to a tv programme?
Not a lot. If it's ok in crafts (dedicated, regular posters) , then it should be fine In telly addicts.
And why would you not allow it in telly addicts, if you have allowed it in such a risqué topic as chat?
Defies logic.

OP posts:
WestmorlandSausage · 01/03/2014 18:26

wasn't suggesting you didn't just agreeing that the troll argument doesn't hold much weight when high traffic topics have it.
