HemmingGate: To ban or not to ban, that is the question MNHQ

CarpeVinum · 30/12/2013 17:46

Some of us would like to know if a certain politico will be banned, proper.

No rush.

We know you have a lot on your plate with ... stuff.

(I probably got two quotes mixed up in subject line. Don't panic! It's me not you. Am philistine. Italy is wasted on me. Not keen on art, prefer shopping.)

Oh my, I am breathless with excitement after catching up with the thread.

Apparently I have family to attend to (whose idea was that?), but I shall be back

MadameDefarge · 03/01/2014 19:23

that was when he was enjoying the attention

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 19:23

I thought the Mirror leaned labour ?

Insofar as I understand it - which is not very well - to 'defame' someone is to publish information about them which is untrue and which is damaging to their reputation. So I can see how Sally Bercow got into trouble with her tweets.

But what worries me is that rich people use legal proceedings simply as a threat to intimidate. Even if you know what you are saying about them is true and you can prove it, they are still going to drag you through the courts and cause you a lot of emotional stress etc.

I think the Birmingham Mail are a bit pathetic. I thought another journalist here said they wouldn't have published at all unless they were sure. They didn't say anything defamatory as far as I can see. JH has admitted to doing what was alleged. He just doesn't think it is serious.

MadameDefarge · 03/01/2014 19:21

they have covered him in the past, kittengate being one. But I guess that was a public trial...

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2014 19:19

Hmm, I may be creating a false memory here, but I'm sure the big boss at TMP in cardiff is a Mr Hemming...

MadameDefarge · 03/01/2014 19:11

trinity group...mirror...ooh thats a point, nothing in the Mirror!

Mignonette · 03/01/2014 19:09

Who might the shareholders be of that newspaper? Hmm

Mignonette · 03/01/2014 19:08

Yes, the road to bad intentions has been carpeted in Hemming's aspersions......

WestmorlandSausage · 03/01/2014 19:07

best toast ever Carpe!

I remember the feeling so angry at that post when I first saw it and then having a calming glass of wine and realising that actually he had just done our grassroots attempt at showing the world his true character a MAHOOOSIVE favour.

I've had a look at the archive version of the birmingham mail story and agree that it doesn't say anything different to what the nationals are printing.

He clearly has some influence there somewhere if he has managed to get them to pull it.

Gah i've been pulling my hair out at work today wondering what has been going on!

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 19:04

Ohhhh! goody.

Cos it's not true, I can prove it with my telecom Italia internet account and data trial

and I feel covered in aspertions !

Mignonette · 03/01/2014 18:54

Good evening all of you.

How busy you have all been!

Still full of admiration.

Carpe You have the right to sue for defamation if they print something that you believe is untrue and casts aspersions upon you or your actions. If I am wrong, maybe one of the legal eagles will correct me? Smile

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 18:46

or we are, i wasn't enitely sure if she was accusing me or us.

OP posts:
CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 18:46

In British law can I go after somebody for defamation if they publically post that they suspect I am circulating the kids names via the screen shot more than John ever could have hoped to when he posted it on the cournty's busiest parenting site ?

OP posts:
AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 03/01/2014 18:40

By "defamation" does he mean that something printed was untrue ? Everything I have seen printed so far has been factual (apart from some sensationalist press mix ups about exactly who was named by Mr Hemming)

he defamed himself, surely ?

if I had acted like this, I would be kicking myself very severely and apologising profusely to all and sundry, going for the dryathon with a vengeance and scouring "situations vacant" in the local rag

MurderOfGoths · 03/01/2014 18:37

Carpe Grin Fair point!

LakeDistrict I really hope I'm wrong, having read more of their posts on other articles, they are a bit of a twat (understatement) who thinks other delightful things like the "true Brits" are an endangered species due to forriners.

Spero · 03/01/2014 18:36

I really, really hope he is actually thick enough to try going after the nationals for their 'defamation'. I can't see what they have printed which is any different to the Birmingham Mail.

CarpeVinum · 03/01/2014 18:34

Actually I would Like to congratulate somebody else for the press finally getting interested.

Raises glass Wine

John, I am so so grateful that you put up that blog post, basically confiming that we weren't making it all up, thus (finally) giving the press a reason to prick up their ears (cos there evidently was some substance to the story) ....and run with it.

From the bottom of my cotton socks, I thank you.

We couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks

Lilka · 03/01/2014 18:34

Yes, thank you Spero , Carpe , all the Italian posters and everyone who is responsible for this hitting the papers Smile

LakeDistrictBabe · 03/01/2014 18:20

Unless they are actually referring to Dacorum as in the area. Which puts them worryingly close to me!

OMG, no!! I hope not!

MurderOfGoths · 03/01/2014 18:14

"Gosh, it is spelled Decorum!"

Unless they are actually referring to Dacorum as in the area. Which puts them worryingly close to me!

LakeDistrictBabe · 03/01/2014 18:11

I'd bet a thousand pound that Dacorum on the Telegraph is Ian Joseph Hahaha
Gosh, it is spelled Decorum!! What a bunch of utter ignorants who want to pass off as saviours and intellectuals!!

Spero

and I will say it again - it is the involvement of you and Lake and others who can't be dismissed as 'stooges of the system' that have tipped this into something actually happening.

Thanks Thanks although I think that challenging Hemming's reasoning was quite easy, he was even able to say crap about Lord of the Rings, which is a record considering the amount of people who read the books and saw the movies!

I don't think Hemmingate could make it to the papers without you, Carpe and MNHQ Thanks

nennypops · 03/01/2014 17:50

I don't think the Telegraph's merry band of misogynists quite knows what's hit them. I'm surely they normally harrumph away cheering each other on without ever having to deal with dreadful people daring to produce inconvenient things like logical arguments, facts and evidence.

MadameDefarge · 03/01/2014 17:40

wonder why that is >

Lilka · 03/01/2014 17:32

Wow he's really taking this seriously Hmm

I'm actually surprised how anti-Hemming a lot of the Telegraph comments were
