Can you get into trouble for reporting too much?

Recently there has been an onslaught of arseholes goaders and obviously the best thing to do is not rise to it as it bumps the thread/ fuels the fire and also not to call them out as they could be a genuine person who needs help. So my question is, can you get into trouble for being 'report' happy? I'm only asking as the last forum I was on years ago would penalise people if they were thought to be reporting too much. I have reported 3 posts in the past 24 hours (inc. Kerrang twat and goady M&S trouser woman) which I felt were justified, but getting the e-mail in my inbox from MNHQ that looks so official with its incident number is so off-putting! I'm not a busy-body, honest, I just want the website to be the best it can be, especially in light of the AF incident. Cheers!

I report if I see a PA or if I think I see a troll thread. I don't give it much thought. If I think it might be a troll thread I report it even if I am not sure and am enjoying it

There is no "philosophy of Mumsnet", other than perhaps "be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes". The rest is people's personal opinions. If they don't happen to agree with yours, well, that's probably because you're wrong innit?

BTW I am reporting this thread for being about a thread.

NearTheWindmill · 15/11/2013 20:57

I'm waiting to be banned for reporting and questioning the philosophy of MNet which appears to be turning into BLIAR Net.

MissMarple

you need to start a campaign in AIBU.
maybe when the Olivia twins arrive MNHQ will be happy to celebrate with gin.

I don't know if she has sprogged down yet.

if you start a thread pm me please!

MissMarplesBloomers · 06/11/2013 23:58

Zing I have been pestering lobbying for a gin emoticon for aaaaages but as yet Tech is ignoring.

We needed one on the sad mothers trying not to be clucky about their Freshers Empty Nest Thread, but no.

I blamed OliviaNoGinMumsnet just 'cos she was upduffed no-one else could enjoy a snifter or two glass.

Has she gone on Mat Leave now? Grin

Love Jux's idea of the shit-browning of a post according to the number of reports it gets. There is an analogy to be made there with brown-nosing but I can't be arsed to make it.

MadameDefarge · 06/11/2013 23:39

ta ever so, Honey!

HoneyDragon · 06/11/2013 23:19

MadameD, I shall follow you from thread to thread saying nice things if it happens again.

That'll learn 'em.

MadameDefarge · 06/11/2013 23:12

Yes, they got deleted.

I am not a fan of deletions. but in some circs its definitely the better option.

Mintyy · 06/11/2013 23:04

I've missed all this! I can't keep up. Have they been deleted now? Hope you are not too rattled Madame.

MadameDefarge · 06/11/2013 21:58

well indeed, a bit cool would be fine. But two threads trashing me was a tad much.

Careca · 06/11/2013 18:27

Hmmmm as opposed to

ZingWantsCake · 06/11/2013 18:23

< reports MNHQ for still not doing a gin emoticon - possibly from being permanently tipsy>

Mintyy · 06/11/2013 18:20

See, I always feel that hq are a bit trigger happy with the ol' deletions. I'd like to see a lot more stay.

I'm not sure its altogether realistic to expect people never to be a bit off with you if you have had a huge barney on another thread though? That's not much like real life. Obviously its not on to be hostile and vile. But a bit cool is ok?

Jux · 06/11/2013 18:12

Can I lobby a bit for the non-deletion of posts, but perhaps a counter of how many reports a post clocks up and maybe a change to shit-brown colour when it gets 10 reports?

I have seen my first proper troll for ages today (not goady fucker / PA). It was like spotting a rare beast...

Fairenuff · 06/11/2013 16:44

I agree Maryz it doesn't seem consistent at all. And some posts are gone within minutes whereas others hang around for days.

What ever happened to the have a fight on one thread and perhaps agree on another? I have experienced this this week. And am a bit cross at it. I do think this needs to emphasised. If I thought I was going to be ignored/goaded etc on any other not related thread...maybe I would think again. But it has hurt. I had a bit of a bunfight the other day, and it has become clear to me that I am non persona grata on many other threads. This is so not in the spirit of MN that I know. What should I do?

Icepilot · 05/11/2013 22:31

Oh I wondered this too... I've been way to reporty recently. Realised it was time to step away from the keyboard for a bit!

JulieMumsnet · 05/11/2013 22:28

@BOF

I'm not convinced they like my reports when the come in full dossier format, with links, historical references, and a full list of troll username conventions and tropes...I think their hearts sink Grin

Still, I shall pepper them with creative compliments and see if that cheers them up Grin

We LOVE your reports, BOF. Cake? Our hearts sink when no one reports anything Sad

NorthernLurker · 05/11/2013 16:12

I would suggest if you report something and then think actually no it's fine then just report the same post again saying you've chnaged your mind. That said though HQ make up their own minds and if they think something is not dodgy they'll reply to you saying so. Then you sit and wait for them to be proved wrong Grin

Beccagain · 04/11/2013 07:36

What happens if you report and then regret it?

MadameDefarge · 03/11/2013 11:55

anyone else read Kates list in a Gilbert and Sullivan song way?
