Swearing. Why?

dummad · 23/04/2013 13:21

I'n not averse to the odd 'FFS' or whatever, but it seems to me that the use of the C word is now commonplace on every thread nowadays. And i don't like it one bit.

It never used to be like this. Why the cultural shift? I never hear it spoken out loud so why is it suddenly ok to plaster it all over MN?

Is it suddenly 'en vogue' to sound like a drunken navvy? Words like cunt, snatch, twat etc are just vile. Can't we reign it in a bit?

Zombie you are one of my fave atrocious cunts.

Freddiemisagreatshag · 23/04/2013 13:41

Zombie - You are a cunt Grin

IamtheZombie · 23/04/2013 13:40

In Zombie's experience, cunt is almost always used as a term of endearment on MN. (Not that she can recall anyone being fond enough of her to call her one. Sad) When it isn't and if it is reported to HQ, it will be deleted.

Shrugs.

AnyaKnowIt · 23/04/2013 13:39

I could call you a dickhead op?

I'm all for equal ops Smile

SPsYoniTheOneAndOnly · 23/04/2013 13:39

That's totally different. You just dont like the word cunt. Its not offensive.

Its like me asking everyone not to use the word moist as its offensive Confused No its just a word I dont like.

Oh and MN draws the line at all offensive language other than that which is gender specific. Nice to know that a black person is allowed to be offended by certain words but I'm not.

That's equal.

Nobody has yet called me an atrocious cunt. That makes me Sad

AnyaKnowIt · 23/04/2013 13:35

Wouldn't say cunt in front of my mum, but anyone else I do.

I'm forever calling dp a cunt

SPsYoniTheOneAndOnly · 23/04/2013 13:34

I do in fact call my neighbour bitch face and she has in return called me a cunt so yes its not just on here.

Tough shit tbh. No ones going to stop because one person thinks its disrespectful

dummad · 23/04/2013 13:32

Sorry but i find it shows a lack of respect to be honest. I bet you don't speak like that face to face with your friends or family, so why doesn't it extend to the online community?

Thanks for the message Rebecca at mumsnet. I'm trying to address the issue of swearing if you would like to read my post. You're speaking to the wrong person.

We all have our private opinions on other people's language, OP... personally I find the increasingly common use of 'reign' for 'rein' rather teeth-gritting.

However, I am trying to be non-judgemental, and suggest you do the same.

SPsYoniTheOneAndOnly · 23/04/2013 13:28

Adults are allowed to swear therefore mumsnet give us the right and don't censor us

Tortington · 23/04/2013 13:28

oooh a dragon emoticon - how very cunting excellent

dummad · 23/04/2013 13:27

Since when is using the word cunt and minge representative of being an adult?

RebeccaMumsnet · 23/04/2013 13:27

Hi dummad,

Thanks for your post.

This is what we say in our Talk guidelines on swearing :

It's not our policy to delete swearwords (we are all adults, after all) but we do draw the line at obscenity, racist and disablist language, and wording that is truly beyond the pale. So, if you're not sure which side of that line your swearword of choice may fall, it might be best not to use it.

YoniMatopoeia · 23/04/2013 13:24

No we Fucking can't. It is a site for adults.

Hth

Dragon :)

SPsYoniTheOneAndOnly · 23/04/2013 13:23
