Non AIBUs in AIBU. They wind me up but I feel petty reporting them.

They always seem to start:

"to ask you...

...to recommend me a pushchair
...whether you got a Primary school place
...to ask you for packed lunch ideas.

...to ask a tedious question about a topic I have hidden

And then they start: "I've put this in AIBU for extra traffic because it was being ignored in it's rightful place proper topic.". No shit Sherlock. Maybe it was because it was dull.

Occasionally I report, but then I wonder if MNHQ think I'm being petty/nitpicking. If only everyone would use Active Convos, then there wouldn't be this problem.

YANBU OP.

From a personal point of view, I spend a lot of my time on MN giving advice on the Employment topic.

When someone posts about an employment issue in AIBU, what they often get lots of responses, but largely from people with strong opinions either way and/or who mean well but who don't actually know what they are talking about from a legal point of view.

If they post the same thread in Employment, they might not get a response within 5 minutes, and they might not get loads of responses, but when they get response they are more likely to be from posters who have experience/knowledge in the area.

If it's to do with The Village, probably Dawn of the Dead.

It's just taken me ages to work out what DOTD meant.

I've not been here long. Grin

Bertrand Russell is turning in his grave.

usualsuspect · 14/04/2013 12:43

I disagree with tethersend.

LadyBeagleEyes · 14/04/2013 12:37

Definitely pushchair or BF/FF threads on AIBU.
They have their own topics because no one else wants to read them, I do tend to post that they have their own topics for this.
I've only ever once started an AIBU thread, it was meant to go in chat, so I wrote a second post apologising it was on the wrong thread.
I still got told off, because no bugger RTFT though.

Panzee · 14/04/2013 11:13

I hate it too. I've got some topics hidden for a reason.

As we are moaning, I also hate the thread titles with half a sentence.
e.g.
"So I went to the shop and..."

SoupDragon · 14/04/2013 11:04

Then the forum would just be AIBU

No it wouldn't because the thread police would always be along, tutting and reporting.

MardyBra · 14/04/2013 10:40

I think it's the queue-jumping aspect that irks me. The poster knows she won't get much of a response to the thread elsewhere. It's so un-British.

It's great that there are some people who aren't bothered by this, but what if it were allowed to continue unchecked? Then the forum would just be AIBU because everyone would post there for "extra traffic".

Tethers everyone agrees with you.....on S&B

SoupDragon · 13/04/2013 19:05

I agree with TethersEnd.

DeepRedBetty · 13/04/2013 18:55

Hear hear re Relationships... I've got it hidden a lot of the time as I can only stand so much Other People's Unhappiness. I do occasionally visit, I'll pick up on a story and support on through - I've stuck with Pickles in her various incarnations for instance.

EuroShaggleton · 13/04/2013 18:51

I'm with tethersend. I struggle to come up with anything I care less about, tbh.

Dumdeedumdeedum · 13/04/2013 18:48

Happens in chat too... I'm just putting this here because I want it to disappear and I'm too bone idle to NC so I'm not posting in the right place.

Or I posted in relationships but nobody replied in the split second between then and pasting this to post here

Argh if I wanted to read your misery I'd go to relationships. Chat is supposed to be light and fluffy!

Trills · 13/04/2013 17:55

Those ones are often prime AIBU fodder, where the question is most definitely about whether someone is being unreasonable, the OP is just not very good at constructing sentences. So they are in the right place, just poorly written.

Oh, and when people say "So do you think I am AIBU?". Do we think you are what? Are you paying attention to what those letters mean?

MardyBra · 13/04/2013 17:12

I wince at little at the "AIBU that my SIL is doing this thing?" posts, but I tend to assume the poster is struggling a bit to squeeze their query into the AIBU format and give them the benefit of the doubt.

OP posts:
Trills · 13/04/2013 16:23

Do you want to know what else winds me up?

When people ask "AIBU that my SIL is doing this thing?"

That makes no sense. How can it be unreasonable of you that someone else is doing something?

AIBU to think...?

AIBU to feel...?

AIBU to do...?

AIBU regarding...?

All of these are better.

LineRunner · 13/04/2013 15:33

For a logical positivist, it's a nightmare.

rumbelina · 13/04/2013 06:16

The other problem is that people put in the subject line, 'AIBU to ask which doily to use....' To which you can respond YABU/YANBU and the latter could then give the go-ahead to ask the question.

But usually they DON'T WAIT for the reply and ask anyway in the text bit.

It's untidy, I agree.

MrsHoarder · 13/04/2013 05:04

I love the idea of looking things tidy maryz.
