Here's what I don't get about Mumsnet postings

  1. Why would you use so many acronyms? Is it really so much more time consuming to write "my son" than "DS"? Just type what you mean people, it's only a few more characters.
  2. What is the strikethrough all about?? Every other message seems to include a sentence or two that the poster has inexplicably chosen to apply strikethrough to. Can anyone explain why? Do people really find it witty?

YY to strike through addiction, novice.

I would happily vote for Cunty Corner, but I've already got one topic request on my nagging list up and running with MNHQ.

MrsBeep · 16/01/2013 00:02

I'm fairly new to the MN world, but I like abbreviations. And I'm loving the Bear !

Can someone tell me what HTH stands for though?

WifeofPie · 15/01/2013 23:56

I think in strike through.

SPsFanjoIsAsComfyAsAOnesie · 15/01/2013 23:52

I try strike throughs and grins in texts. Think that means I have a problem

BrandyAlexander · 15/01/2013 23:49

Does anyone else find themselves wanting to use strike throughs in emails at work or is it just me?Blush

IceAndSliceOfBrainsPlease · 15/01/2013 23:48

zoo, DP & I have agreed on many, many occasions that there is never anything so amusing as a scribbled drawing of a spurting cock.

OP, like many other internet fora forums MN has its own language and culture. You need to lurk moar (as per Rule 33).

ZooAnimals · 15/01/2013 23:45

SPsFanjoIsAsComfyAsAOnesie · 15/01/2013 23:43

InLove You didn't work that out yourself did you? I hope not Blush

CuttedUpPear · 15/01/2013 23:42

I think if you've been here a long time you may well have run out of salient or even witty points to make so you just prat about a bit with bears and strikethroughs.

SPsFanjoIsAsComfyAsAOnesie · 15/01/2013 23:42

I joined in Feb of last year and I didn't understand either but you learn.

Heres a Bear just for you.

strike outs are fun when you learn to use them correctly

usualsuspect · 15/01/2013 23:41

Shes shagging Cain jealous

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 15/01/2013 23:41

and while I'm on a roll, there are lots of things on MN that don't float my boat yet others find hilarious, I either don't click on the thread or if I do by accident I get off the thread - I don't post 'do people really think it's funny' - because clearly they do! It's a no brainer surely??

usualsuspect · 15/01/2013 23:41

Well shes not really a cow, but shes a bit bossy, she used to be in Take The High Road. I don't spend all my life watching soaps, honest

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 15/01/2013 23:39

But Moira's are usually humourless cows who like to boss people about in my experience

Spot on!!!

Moira on Emmerdale is not a typical Moira, not at all!!

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 15/01/2013 23:39

ooh yay it worked

GetOrf · 15/01/2013 23:39

Ooh is there a cow called moira in emmerdale?

There was a horrible bossy type called that in malory towers as well I think.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 15/01/2013 23:39
Bear
ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 15/01/2013 23:38

There's so much great about Mumsnet but then there's some stuff that just seems to be about making new people feel stupid or not included

That's a ridiculous attitude. There are in-jokes, there are abbreviations, there are all kinds of things that go on that not everyone is in on, old or new. Of course the longer you are here, and the more you post, the more you 'get' them, like anywhere else in life... you can't expect hundreds of people to act as though everyone is new all of the time just so someone doesn't feel 'left out' not knowing why something is so funny??!!
