Following on from the news of the release of our shiny new Android app, we are vair pleased to announce the release of the new and improved iPhone and iPad app.

All of our Talk apps are free to download and you can find lots more info on all things mobile here including an easy to scan and download QR code to get the mobile version on your phone.

Please do take a look and come back and tell us what you think.

The iPad app keeps crashing as I am scrolling down Sad

poorbuthappy · 29/11/2012 22:14
Envy Oooooo excitement.
GoingGoingGoth · 29/11/2012 22:07

Having to post in safari, as app keeps crashing, looks good though.
Would like own and OP coloured please?

Is thisHmm sad face or is thisSad? The second one looks like it is sleeping.

bluebump · 29/11/2012 22:03

I use bookmarking all the time so I'd rather stick to a web version on the iPad still I think. It does look good though.

ScooseIsOnTheLoose · 29/11/2012 22:02

Mine keeps crashing too I don't like it Hmm

Jux · 29/11/2012 21:53

How are people getting all these emoticons? I can't scroll down to the end of a thread to get the post message box, let alone as far down as the emoticons - on neither Android nor iPad.

I have never used the mobile site, I just use Safari on the iPad, and don't MN on the phone at all.

AmandinePoulain · 29/11/2012 21:40

How do you get the Steiff teddy though? I saw it up thread but it's not in the ready made emoticons list and if it's not bear in brackets how do you draw it? And why was poor Pom sidelined in favour of a pointless green heart?

Anyone want to join me in a Bring Back Pom lobby? We can make posters and organise sit ins and shout Down With This Sort Of Thing Wink

AmandinePoulain · 29/11/2012 21:33

And this Sad doesn't convey 'hmm' to me, in fact I thought that Hmm was hmm.

DontCallMeBaby · 29/11/2012 21:33

The bear is here in Safari, fret not. And he looks like he should, a Pom Bear, not some poncetastic Steiff teddy.

Whatevertheweather · 29/11/2012 21:32

My upgraded app is now totally useless, won't do a thing without crashing and closing. I remember this happened when the last upgrade was released for the iPhone app.

Tis odd as I was one of the 'testers' for the upgraded iPhone app so had it on my phone before and it was fine though sounds like our pleas for book marking and colour coded posts were ignored Wink

AmandinePoulain · 29/11/2012 21:28

Where's the bear? I typed bear in square brackets but it disappeared Shock

Will no one think of the bear?! Hmm

AmandinePoulain · 29/11/2012 21:26

Testing Bear

Tiredmumno1 · 29/11/2012 21:00

It's kicked me off quite a few times already Sad

AmandinePoulain · 29/11/2012 20:51

It keeps crashing

Sad
marshmallowpies · 29/11/2012 20:46

I'm getting crashing too. And Most Active is my first port of call when I open MN in the morning....where has it gone?

MirandaWest · 29/11/2012 20:40

Whoops I used one of them when I was on the mobile version so it made no sense Blush

MirandaWest · 29/11/2012 20:39

I opened it. Everything crashes :( but I did see it has the emoticons DP put onto my iPad for me 😊

AppleOgies · 29/11/2012 20:33

Bugger!
Wish I'd read this thread before upgrading, I got excited. It's not useable at all on my iPad or my iPhone
But actually it's mainly this thread... Is it the number of emoticons on this thread that is causing the problem.
Flicking between web page and app, and other threads that are less busy are working?

DontCallMeBaby · 29/11/2012 20:31

Okay, praise and criticism like a sandwich, here goes ...

I like the iPad layout a lot. TBH I tended to read through Safari on my iPad, so don't know how different it is, but I do like it.

This thread crashes the app on both elderly iPhone (3GS) and nearly-new iPad.

The emoticons are insane. Having emoticons which are totally different in an app as opposed to a browser is bizarre. Having ones which don't exist in a browser bizarrerer still. I can't see what most of the faces are supposed to be on the iPhone, and while I may not have a retina display on that I DO have perfect eyesight. Ner.

And there is no 'hmm' emoticon. That is my favourite emoticon ever, I often bemoan its absence at work (cos I feel that way a LOT at work).

When not crashing, both apps are nice and responsive. iPhone one always has been - I often resort to MNing when the signal is too weak to do anything else.

AppleOgies · 29/11/2012 20:28

Mine keeps crashing... Regretting upgrading now! Hmm
I can't 'flip' a thread, or scroll to quickly, or read a long thread without it crashing.
What I can see of it looks prettier though...
Although what is this Biscuit?

NellVarnish · 29/11/2012 20:28

Buggeration! I've just updated without reading to the end of this thread! Mine keeps crashing on almost every thread I open :( (iPhone)

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 29/11/2012 20:24

Thanks Rowan, can you please tell us where you've hidden 'Most Active' too.

Maybe tech have taken it for their office secret Santa gift?

RowanMumsnet · 29/11/2012 20:19

Hello there

Very sorry to hear about annoying crashing problems et al. We'll come back with something more constructive (than my useless post) ASAP.
