I have reported it 3 times today, 1 before 9am.
Heard nothing from them.

OP posts:
Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 13/11/2012 19:21

We definitely need a rolling-eyes smiley. A box of frogs = racist?

HoneyDragon · 13/11/2012 19:18

I fucking luffs your Xmas hoverererer I does Rudy

HecatePropylaea · 13/11/2012 19:17

"Mad as a box of frogs" is racist?

I always thought the saying was about actual frogs. you know, ribbit ribbit. Packed in a box. Hopping mad. (sorry about that Grin )

And are the french a race? as in an ethnicity?

I mean, they're a nation, but they're not a race. So even if it was about french people, it still wouldn't be racism. It'd be xenophobia.

but I honestly struggle to believe that the saying refers to actual french people.

I suppose if you put a load of french people in a box they'd be fairly perturbed about it.

As perturbed as a container of french people.

Having seen the link, I still don't get it. Someone posts the 1944022944643390229th thread this month about how they don't like mumsnet. Someone says they're as mad as a box of frogs. And this isn't saying they're being a bit bonkers but is actually a calculated slur on their nationality. Which isn't mentioned on the thread. But apparently at some point in the past, they've mentioned their children are in the french education system. Which means that these people had read the OP and then searched the OPs other posts, noted this and made a decision to choose a euphemism for battyness that mentions an offensive word for the french.

Really?

Isn't it more likely that they just meant it how everyone else means it when they say it?

RudolphUcker · 13/11/2012 19:15

Thank you LRD. I may have to change it if people think I am poor AnyF Grin

MooncupGoddess · 13/11/2012 19:14

Thank God amillion hasn't come across the phrase 'like boiling a frog' yet.

Seriously, I think she really does mean well, but is prone to odd idees fixes.

badgeroncaffeine · 13/11/2012 19:11

Another crazy debate...very funny.

scottishmummy · 13/11/2012 19:11

duty of care saying I recall that thread was active on it,it's been suggested op was too
don't recall name, but it was hard going to try reason with skewed logic

Bloody hell. Mad as a box of frogs is one of my favourite sayings. I use it all the time (but we don't talk about the time I told the doc I liked her because she was mad as a box of frogs and she replied 'actually, yes, I am bipolar" )

Amillionyears, seriously, you don't like MN. You have made that so very obvious. You complain about everything, you complain about MNHQ - who we actually LIKE - all the time.

Why do you stay?

There are a million and one other websites, a million and two other forums. Why do you stay here if you hate it so much?

You run the risk of becoming an object of ridicule, why would you put yourself through that?

BarbecuedBillygoats · 13/11/2012 19:06

Now Nigella
You're just not thinking outside the box... es

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/11/2012 19:05

I do absolutely love your name, rudolph. Not relevant, but I keep thinking of saying it on serious threads where it wouldn't be appropriate.

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 13/11/2012 19:04

oh fuck is milton keynes in bucks not beds?

What a fail.

RudolphUcker · 13/11/2012 19:04

OP, I mean this in the nicest possible way. But don't you think you constantly get the wrong end of the stick? I remember you accusing us of bullying Tee for hours even after she came and told you it was a joke she fully understood and participated in. And another thread where you had some MN Royalty conspiracy.

And now accusing Tufty and whoever else of racism on those grounds? really^?. tbh I can't believe MNHQ deleted 'mad as a box of frogs' but for you STILL to be banging on about it...

CouthyMowEatingBraiiiiinz · 13/11/2012 19:03

Wt ACTUAL F?!

You can't say mad as a box of frogs any more? But I AM as mad as a box of frogs.

And any jokes about Essex girls and I'll 'av ya!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/11/2012 19:03

Ohhhh ... I love that, jenai.

NigellasGuest · 13/11/2012 19:02

I still say we need a Box Inclusion Policy.
To shut them up, if nothing else

IvorHughJanusAndABulgingSack · 13/11/2012 19:01

I have spent the whole day running around after an obnoxious, sickly, pox infested toddler. I so wish I'd been here instead. This thread is marvellous. My girl crush on Hully gets deeper and more embarassing by the day

ScrambledSmegs · 13/11/2012 19:01

Was that the same poster, scottishmummy?

If so, I guess we can all point out the facts till the end of time, and still amillion just won't get it.

BarbecuedBillygoats · 13/11/2012 19:01

No nigella
Boxes really are as bad as everyone makes out

BlameItOnTheCuervHoHoHo · 13/11/2012 19:00

I'll say it again, I dont understand why a poster who dislikes mumsnet and the way that MNHQ run things enough to whinge about it constantly stays here. this might help

Oh I like that, goats. And it's possibly nicer in polite company that "like a whore's drawers".

PickledFanjoCat · 13/11/2012 18:59

I told someone ds has a frog in his throat earlier.

BarbecuedBillygoats · 13/11/2012 18:59

Ive just come across the delightful phrase
Up and down like frogs in a bucket

So thank you millions. Without this thread I couldn't have added that slur phrase to my knowledge.

Courtesy of Wiki, LRD:

"some local people had hidden contraband barrels of French brandy from customs officers in a village pond. While trying to retrieve it at night, they were caught by the revenue men, but explained themselves by pointing to the moon's reflection and saying they were trying to rake in a round cheese.

The excise men, thinking they were simple yokels, laughed at them and went on their way. But, as the story goes, it was the moonrakers who had the last laugh. In the words of an anonymous Wiltshireman who recounted the story to writer Arthur Granville Bradley: ? Zo the excizeman ?as ax?d ?n the question ?ad his grin at ?n,?but they?d a good laugh at ?ee when ?em got whoame the stuff.?"

The Brandy being French is purely coinicidental btw Grin
