Please?

I just think that it is such an important piece of history that we should show some support (besides wearing one) and have a little poppy throughout November.

I'd use it loads :)

yes please

without it, it is impossible to tell who is the remembringest. it will also make it easy to pick out the unpatriotic traitors

using it in the site logo is way too discreet, let's have it as a smiley which in no way at all triviallises war, death, loss, destruction and remembrance

is it possible to ensure it is glittery?

Thumbwitch · 31/10/2012 11:36

I would like one. It's no different to the saint day emoticons in terms of use - but I guess some people might be unhappy with the idea because of the political ramifications (which I disagree with personally).

TodaysAGhoulDay · 31/10/2012 11:35

Yes please to the poppy!

MrsCantSayAnything · 31/10/2012 11:31

We could have the poppy instead of the bunch of flowers? Or we could have one instead of a smiley.

MrsCantSayAnything · 31/10/2012 11:30

I would love one too. Yes please!

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 31/10/2012 11:29

Yes to the poppy (but not the white one).

HelenMumsnet · 31/10/2012 11:26

Hello. We usually do a little poppy on our Twitter logo/FB logo and (if we can remember how!) our site logo.

We're reckoning on doing the same this year because Tech will stab us with his pointy stick if he has to create any more emoticons

futuredream · 31/10/2012 11:25

Another vote for white poppy too please

GrotMags · 31/10/2012 11:25

Yes please to the poppy emotion

Badvoc · 31/10/2012 11:25

I do!
Great idea.

TheCunnyFuntOfEastwick · 31/10/2012 11:23

I do I do I do!

Good idea wrt names LtEve, but if you recall, MNHQ added the olympic torch to the logo AND they had a torch emoticon :)

Some v excellent suggestions here. How many of you would like a poppy emoticon?

Wetthemogwai · 31/10/2012 09:19

Was trying to find a way of doing one without an emoticon but this was the best I could come up with....

So you've got my vote too! I'd put it at the end of every post

StarsGhostTail · 31/10/2012 09:08

As to a MN Poppy, yes, but I'd have to think where to put it.

StarsGhostTail · 31/10/2012 09:07

Any where that has been, or is near wheat fields is absolutely full of poppy seeds.
I don't know how long they survive, but when we dug shed foundations and left them (DD2 came along) we got a sea of poppies.
Fields left as grass, the year after being winter wheat are amazing and even mole hills grow poppies, here.

LtEveDallas · 31/10/2012 07:46

I'm not sure about a poppy emoticon, I mean what would it be used for? (ie Flowers mean 'Thanks' - What would the poppy symbolise?)

I think MNHQ could add a poppy to the MN Icon (like when they added an Olympic torch)

MNers could always add to usernames if they wanted like LtEveDallasWearingAPoppy Smile

financialwizard · 31/10/2012 07:32

I vote yes. Very long history of military bods in my family.

ComradeJing · 31/10/2012 02:42

I vote yes too MNHQ. My DB is in the army.

BlueyDragon · 31/10/2012 02:00

TinyDancingHoofer · 31/10/2012 01:48

I knew it was something like that. I learnt all this in primary school after all so at least 10 years ago :o

Poppies like newly turned soil. After all that bombing the soil was ... Sad

Please on the poppy emoticon. DH is a retired soldier.

lurcherlover · 30/10/2012 21:58

It was noticed that red poppies grew abundantly on battlefields and the graves of dead soldiers - they are plants that like disturbed ground. And of course the colour is an obvious reminder of the sacrifice of the dead, so they became the symbol of remembrance after the war.
