Hello MNHQ - a question about automatic links please?

Seems that quite a few of us are now having names of online shops come up as automatic links.

Eg(and fingers crossed these work!

Argos
Next
Marks and spencers
Wilkes
Toys r us

Can you confirm if this is a new addition to MN or are we all infected with something nasty?

Thankoo! Grin

Arrrrrrrgos.

Sorry, couldn't resist Grin

aufaniae · 02/10/2012 23:34

What's a pirate's favourite shop?

aufaniae · 02/10/2012 23:33

Ha! It doesn't work if you don't use a capital! Take that, argos!!

aufaniae · 02/10/2012 23:32

Ug. Not impressed.

I think it was Microsoft who had an idea, years back, to sell off individual words on the internet and make them links. Not just tradenames, but M&S could for example buy the rights to the word "knickers" (or scatter bags Grin) and every time someone used that word and it was published online, it'd be a link to their ad.

It was quite rightly shelved as a terrible idea, it's basically the commercialisation of our speech.

I don't like the argos link at all as it feels like the thin end of the wedge

aufaniae · 02/10/2012 23:29

Let me have a go, see if it does it to my post.

Argos.

AGoldenOrange · 02/10/2012 23:26

Am on phone now and can see some links. But they didn't show up on the laptop

Bossybritches22 · 02/10/2012 23:19

I saw the links too. How odd!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/10/2012 23:13

If it is a skimlinks thing I guess mn are trying to drum up some extra revenue. Can we really complain?

AGoldenOrange · 02/10/2012 23:12

I'm not seeing any links in the thread

BertieBotts · 02/10/2012 23:12

It's coming and going on mine, it's most odd.

Or at least, I posted the first one and when I posted and it reloaded the thread, just ebay was a link.

Then I posted about how I didn't like it, and while I was doing this, I noticed that ebay was no longer a link.

Posted that and the thread reloaded after posting, now iPhone and ebay are both links. It's like it disabled the one for a second while adding the other.

rhondajean · 02/10/2012 23:11

Shall I report my post see if it makes MNHQ hurry along to tell us what's happening?

SmokyClav · 02/10/2012 23:09

SmokyClav · 02/10/2012 23:08

BertieBotts · 02/10/2012 23:08

...and now it is? And iPhone too?

MirandaWest · 02/10/2012 23:08

I'm not seeing any links Confused

SmokyClav · 02/10/2012 23:08

CheapSmells

DameFanny · 02/10/2012 23:08

This is random

BertieBotts · 02/10/2012 23:08

I don't like it! I feel like someone's been inside my post, messing with it! I feel all dirty!

WHAT and now it's gone? I swear the word "ebay" in my post was a link a second ago, and now it isn't!

SmokyClav · 02/10/2012 23:07

Is this why MN is so slooooooooow? Hmm
