"This is a wind up" was acceptable in the olden days.

But not now.

There's been a few threads recently where the OP was not about begging, emotional vampires, beyond the pale stuff and that ilk.

Just stuff, that if you were having a conversation with your mates, you'd express incredulity.

Why can't these comments be left to stand, rather than a reflex actoin of just zapping them?

Surely there's a difference between a "you've gotta be kiddin" and trill hunting?

Please, please take each comment/thread as a separate case, I really think there's a danger of spoiling the boards with this eagerness to eradicate any implucation of doubt.

I cannot believe I typed tow the line. FFS I am a first class pedant and I do that. I'll be writing here here next like some twat. Shoot me now please.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 10:49

Yes, to frank, its so bloody insulting!

FrankWippery · 11/09/2012 10:23

And what cuervo says.

LurkingAndLearningLovesOrange · 11/09/2012 10:23

Haha like it! Particularly 'professionally offended.'

I once got lectured by a stranger on the street for wearing a stupid beer shrt with six mugs, two empty with the slogan 'Loading..'

I got a tirade about how her hubby is a recovering booze hound (her words..) And I should be ashamed for hindering him. Seriously. A stranger on the street.

My response was...Not pleasant.

I would class that as Professionally Offended. Or more likely, insane.

FrankWippery · 11/09/2012 10:22

I just find it so fucking dull and pathetic that unless one is of the hair smoothing there there brigade they are slammed, quite nastily at times, of bullying when it simply isn't generally the case.

If one doesn't tow the fucking sympathy line and asks for clarification on points then they are accused of troll hunting. Troll if you want, but as with any liar, it is rather important to keep your story straight without massive inconsistencies the whole was through. Some people who, in my mind, are bullies appear blind to the bollocks. It is so boring and so frustrating and, more importantly, can and does hurt real people with real shit going on in their lives.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 10:20

Paranoid + obtuse

Po-faced.

Joyless feckers with chips on their shoulders.

TantrumsAndGoldAndOrange · 11/09/2012 10:06

Professionally offended.

LurkingAndLearningLovesOrange · 11/09/2012 09:58

Stupid question alert<

What does PO stand for?

TantrumsAndGoldAndOrange · 11/09/2012 09:58

Exactly that. It seems there are so many people now who see everything as bullying the op, or being mean. It's getting a bit ridiculous if you can't ask someone to explain something.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 09:56

And I don't think mnhq are to blame. I think its the influx of PO. Credulous fools who see troll-hunters everywhere and fall foul of the pack mentality.

TantrumsAndGoldAndOrange · 11/09/2012 09:51

Personally I think it's all gone mad.
I asked someone very nicely to clarify a point as the 2 things the poster was trying to claim seemed to be complete opposites.
I didn't get deleted but I did get comments from other posters like stop bullying the op and can we not give advice without being nasty

Eh???

So now I say nothing. I read things that clearly make no sense in any world, than cannot possibly be true and think mmm hmmm.
And then say nothing.

Although I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up :(

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 09:41

there there hun...= ok
could you tell me more? what you have said doesnt make sense and I would like to give you accurate advice= not ok.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 11/09/2012 09:33

Perhaps we need a thesaurus of ok remarks:

No way Jose = ok
Liar liar pants on fire. = not ok

LurkingAndLearningLovesOrange · 11/09/2012 09:06

I don't think comments like Maryz examples should be deleted either, especially as tone doesn't really exist on the internet.

I'm surprised MNHQ even would delete a comment like that.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 09:04

no, its about the right to express incredulity. and the fact that some posters will report unless you stroke hair and coo "there there". or call trollhunter if you dare suggest an alternative course of action.

LurkingAndLearningLovesOrange · 11/09/2012 08:27

Oh right, I thought this was about the right to accuse others of being trolls. Blush Sorry, insomnia!

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 08:08

Oh, and I thought mnhq are more button happy because a) we are getting more trolls, and they are cleverer and b) the po are reported every eyeroll.

I've been called a troll. I wasn't trolling. I laughed at them.

BlameItOnTheCuervo · 11/09/2012 08:06

Lurking, the problem is, a lot of trolls post about sensitive issues. I hate trolls far more than troll hunters.

Maryz · 11/09/2012 08:02

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

LurkingAndLearningLovesOrange · 11/09/2012 07:54

I kinda thought the reason MNHQ have been simply deleting any 'troll hunting' type posts now is because legitimate posters have been accused of being trolls a lot lately, and members have been leaving over it etc.

Plus I'd be really angry if someone accused me of being a troll, I'd end up getting aggressive, someone would get aggressive back, bunfight ensures, and the actual point of the OP isn't addressed.

Also sometimes the people behind the screen can be quite fragile and may be seeking out help in the only place they have/feel comfortable to ask etc.

Iunno. I think it's better with no troll hunting. I just wish if a poster does a truly cruel troll post (you know the kinda threads...AIBU to think paedophilia is the same as homosexuality? Etc) longstanding member or not, they get a temporary ban. That way I can be satisfied I controlled the urge to pick up my pitchfork.

The sillier wind ups like the Taxi Rank thread are amusing though.

P.S. I just made up my example so if there actually has been a AIBU about that, sorry! Blush

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 11/09/2012 00:24

I love a good Chaos thread! They always make me feel all warm and giggly inside! Grin
FWIW, I think you are probably right. But then MN has gone all weird recently anyway! Sad

LadyBeagleEyes · 11/09/2012 00:08

But they surely know by now that Chaos Is Always Right???

ChaosTrulyReigns · 11/09/2012 00:00

Friutless whinging and moaning, LBE.

They're raising eyebrows as we speak over ThatNaggyChaosAgain.
