Quote facility?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find anything on it.
Is there a frightfully good reason why there is no 'quote' facility on MN? I would find it immensely useful...

But yes: we had a Heated Debate a wee while back and most people violently agreed they didn't want a quote facility.

Sorry, couldn't resist I do think having a quote facility would just encourage people to quote quote quote quote quote. It would get so messy.

I've been on forums where there is this facility and it's really hard to work your way through it. It really interrupts the flow of conversation.

It has been done before, many, many, many times - so not sure why you can't find anything on it?! I don't think site stuff gets deleted does it?? We've even had polls on it

The vast majority don't want it (for the reason Tee said) and because it gets far too confusing on a site that's so busy.

Copy and paste with a ^ each side works quite well :)
