How long should a thread be left up after we are informed it is going to be deleted?

Because I don't think that four minutes is enough of a warning, I really don't Sad

You know it will just mean threads about threads, because people who don't press F5 every minute see what looks like a totally valid question getting wiped out.

If we are going to invoke the Olympic Spirit, may I politely suggest one that leans towards London rather than Beijing?

I think I'm giving up and going to bed too. I don't want to cause trouble, I just feel sad that posters I like are gone, and it's hard not to talk about it when the subject comes up and you feel strongly Sad

Locking threads is a good idea, also ignore poster button. Those two things would improve MN no end.

I also read tit by proxy but I thought it was some sort of technical computer thing (proxy server related?) and didn't want to
display my ignorance by commenting on it.

I'm just explaining to my DP why we're all a bit Hmm and a bit Angry here. He's describing sites he visited a while ago and said that one is where people go to when they get chucked off another. I explained that this is where people go to when they get chucked off everywhere else for swearing, calling people on being fuckwits and generally telling it like it is. It's not like anyone on this thread would really think about moving permanently to NMHmm...

and get told off for saying 'shut the fuck up with your fucking lols and huns and twinkly fucking twinkly things'.

They 'lock' threads on Etsy, that seems to work, then everyone knows what was said and by whom but can't restoke the fire, but also there is no 'misremembering'.

It was a poorly spelt version of a french fizzy wine, iirc.

I think I wrote something about thread deletions a while back. I think the thread title should stay put, but the discussion should be replaced by a statement saying why the thread was deleted. Then anyone searching for it, or looking in their watched threads, or 'threads I'm on' will see exactly what happened.
