Hello.

Having rofled our way through your Bradley-Wiggins-inspired poetry thread, we thought we'd start the Official Mumsnet Olympics Haiku Thread.

Please do come and post your best haikus about the Games, as and when inspiration strikes.

We may well have a prize or two for the best offerings....

Hello. And thanks for your patience while we 'judged'.

We thought they were all fantastis - and it was really hard to choose the winners.

Special mentions to BoffinMum, bisjolympics and FasterHigherBeardierDaddyman for repeated haiku brilliance throughout the thread.

And extra-special commendations to rockinhippy's dc, jimswifeinTokyo1964 ds and onadifferentplanet's ds for junior haiku wizardry.

But our overall winners are :

In achingly gut-wrenching 4th place (but we'll see if we can find you a consolation prize): ApplesinmyPocket for...
"Great Britain takes gold!"
We've heard that much more often
than we expected.

Bronze medal: OatyBeatie for...
G4S wrote this
But ran out of syllables.
Army did last line.

Silver medal: FairPhyllis for...
Before the swimming
Didn't think it possible
To rhyme with 'Naughtie'

Gold meal: rockinhippy: for...
Thunder BOLT, Lightning
Very, very frightening
Mama Mia - GOLD

Well done all. Do please drop us a mail at [email protected], letting us know your contact details so we can get your prizes sent out to you.

HelenMumsnet · 14/08/2012 10:08

Ok, we're going to unstick while we argue debate about the winners.

Back with news on winners by end of the week.

TheCunningStunt · 14/08/2012 09:23

A poem of three lines. The first and last line need five syllables and the middle line has 7

sudaname · 14/08/2012 08:26

What's a haikus ? [thick,uneducated]

ThePsychicSatsuma · 13/08/2012 22:55

it has to be my celebration of Danish spunk err... strength Wink

HellenicGamesMumsnet · 13/08/2012 09:38

Thanks so much for all your brilliant haikus: they've been making us smile all over this past fortnight.

We'll now get together in a post-Olympic judgly huddle and pick some winners.

Please be patient, though: it may take us a while. They're all too good!

Closing Ceremony

Spice Girls can't be topped?
Shoot on Eric Idle and
the skate-boarding nuns.

TheCunningStunt · 12/08/2012 23:34

Boris Johnson you
Made me laugh so much but please
Don't ever dance again

On seeing one of the winners of the women's Taekwondo bronze medal in the cafe:

Teen boy stands silent
"Hey, mum, look, it's really her!"
Sporting greatness touched

BoffinMum · 12/08/2012 09:50

Haiku on the volunteers, who have brought a chirpy cheerfulness to the Games quite out of step with the current state of officialdom in contemporary British society:

Smiling does come free
But only for a fortnight
Boredom will come back

BoffinMum · 12/08/2012 09:45

Impressions of the immediate Docklands area around ExCel, after LOCOG 'regenerated' it.

No plants, only bark
Police state shiny and fenced
Its soul has now flown

BoffinMum · 12/08/2012 09:40

Haiku on the German contingent of punters at the Taekwondo, who seemingly knew zilch about Taekwondo, but who only had a choice of six of the more obscure sports to choose from, thanks to the apparent limitations put on them by their national ticket providers:

We came, we saw it
Little choice of sports, you know
We've heard of them now

BoffinMum · 12/08/2012 09:36

Haiku on the shockingly dreary ExCel catering available to punters:

Burnt pasty and pie
Do not elite athletes make
That's why they ate fish

BoffinMum · 12/08/2012 09:34

Haiku on the Taikwondo last night:

Foot and face just touched
A lifetime of training leads
To winning the gold

TheCunningStunt · 11/08/2012 20:13

TheCunningStunt · 11/08/2012 20:12

Holey MO-ly that
Was Farah-bulous indeed
Victorious Gold

iMoustacheYouAQuestion · 11/08/2012 11:28

It's almost over
How will London say goodbye?
Bring on the Spice Girls.

CillaSlack · 10/08/2012 22:32

When does this competition end?
It's feels longer than the marathon
And I'm no Mo Farah!

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 10/08/2012 22:22

Tom Daley is fit
Watching him in his Speedos
Helps lift my shit mood

SPsFanjoSponsorsTheOlympics · 10/08/2012 22:20

Paul McCartney's shit
I'd rather see jedward sing
Then HeyJude again.
