PLEASE can we have the option to block all PMs?

I don't want to receive them.

Ever.

You used to be able to opt out of receiving CATS messages and I would like the same option now. It won't affect anyone who doesn't want to opt out.

LOL. No, I've only ever had one flapjack related PM :o

Wigeon · 27/09/2012 07:04

Oh! Soupdragon! I sent you a PM once estolling the many virtues of your fantastic flapjack recipe, and how it's revolutionalised my flapjackery, and how the receipe has made it into the hallowed pages of my homemade recipe book, which only the greatest and the goodest recipes do.

Surely 98.9% of your PMs are saying how fab your fabjacks are? And the others are only mean because they haven't tasted your flapjacks. Perhaps you could reply to the meanies saying "here's a flapjack recipe, that'll make you feel better"?

This is about meeee! All about meeee!

Whine your getting Tech to sort the pm blocking, could you get him to out a 'message poster' button on the mobile site too pretty please? possibly asking too much

I do have a thread floating around in Site stuff somewhere!

Laptop bust still!

Pm blocking great idea btw.
Sorry for hi-jack!

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/09/2012 20:06

I agree with you, too soupy

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/09/2012 20:06

While we are on it, can we please have the option to permanently hide a thread. Some of us have no self control .........

SoupDragon · 26/09/2012 13:17

Whilst he is slacking and doing chuff all thinking about it, my ideal would actually be to be able to limit the people who PM me to, say, that list of "my mumsnet friends" of which I actually have none

HelenMumsnet · 26/09/2012 13:11

Hello. This is DEF on the list of things we'd like Tech to do ASAP.

But we're afraid we can't say when he'll get to it at the moment

SoupDragon · 26/09/2012 09:20

Bump

Any news?

I don't appreciate people takking disagreements off a thread and onto PM.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 04/09/2012 10:52

Just lock the shed door and deny him beer until it's done. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Thanks :)

Hello. SoupDragon, thanks for your suggestion. We def think we should offer people the option to block all PMs.

Tech's going to take a look at the mechanics of setting that up. And, unless it's a complete and utter techy headspin, we should be able to sort that out fairly soon.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 16:40

The equivalent to hiding a thread would be to be able to hide the yellow envelope. I can't see that option anywhere either.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 16:40

No, turning off PMS is like asking MNHQ for what we had before.

What is so difficult to understand about that? Ignoring them is not the same level of privacy we had before. I don't especially care whether you think it's hard to ignore the yellow envelope or not - that is rather missing the point.

Being able to opt out of PMs wouldn't affect anyone other than the person who wishes to opt out.

OP posts:
Trills · 01/09/2012 14:45

You can do something equivalent.

To hide a thread I have to first read the title.

To "hide a PM" I can delete it from my inbox - just like when hiding threads the title is visible but I don't have to read the whole message.

Making an analogy between hiding threads and turning off PMs doesn't really work. Turning off PMs is more equivalent to asking MNHQ to make a button that hides all of Talk.

I don't especially disagree with you on the whole "I don't want to receive PMs" thing. I think that if you are going to ignore them and never look at them then it would be nice if someone who tried to send one to you got a bounceback saying "SoupDragon does not read or reply to PMs" so they know that you are not personally ignoring them, you just don't read them at all. I just don't think that it's terribly hard to ignore the yellow envelope if you really don't want to look at them.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 13:58

What a shame there is no option to hide PMs...

OP posts:
Trills · 01/09/2012 13:11

I am very good at ignoring things now that there is the quick-hide button on Active Convos.

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 12:54

I wanted this option before I ever received a shitty PM. As I said, the main point is that it is an option we had before PMs so why not now?

OP posts:
EnjoyGOLDResponsibly · 01/09/2012 12:46

It is a sad day SD that you have to even bring this up. Im not doubting you, but Shitty PMs? There are people that need to get out more.

BTW I had a lovely super-helpful one yesterday in response to a comment I wrote on a thread.

MyDogShitsMoney · 01/09/2012 12:45

Phew!

Tee2072 · 01/09/2012 12:40

" you shouldn't be able to block someone until 24hrs after your last PM to them."

Why not?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2012 12:39

Ah but what if you were the shitty PM sender just sending shitty PMs and then blocking straight away.

I concede your point though :)

SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 12:35

PieSmuggler - I actually have no idea what the "MN friends" list is. It's on your profile page somewhere - I think you may be able to limit your photos to being viewed by people on this list but I'm not sure.

MyDog... There should have been a :o after my comment about being a twat - it wasn't a dig :)

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/09/2012 12:33

you shouldn't be able to block someone until 24hrs after your last PM to them.

I disagree with this. I have replied to shitty PMs before, saying that it is unacceptable and that I will be blocking them and then blocked them. I don't want to wait.

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2012 12:23

Oh, oh, oh, and to stop evilness you shouldn't be able to PM someone you have blocked, and you shouldn't be able to block someone until 24hrs after your last PM to them.
