Tesco will let you do an order for any amount. I know as I ordered 1 tub of Ben and Jerrys the other week.

Has to be quote of the week Grin

MmeReindor · 21/12/2011 20:38

SantasBigSack
Glad to hear that you were able to access RL help and that you are doing better now.

LissTheSeasonLouBeJollie · 21/12/2011 20:37

santas, Im so glad things are starting to look up. sometimes you do need a wake up call. I hope you have a great Christmas and wonderful 2012.

WinterWonderlandIsComing · 21/12/2011 20:36

I have a soft-spot for the OP and was one of the people to offer something but I really can't spare more than, well, a certain amount - DH and I have stopped accepting gifts from adults and won't be buying for each other until things improve. I thought perhaps it might be my gift to myself, helping someone in an even worse situation and that I could get him something later when possible.

For various reasons I didn't go ahead with the donation. So to be fair, it could be that many people had second thoughts / saw the way the thread was going / had to deal with DC etc and didn't contribute. Then again, we have many lurkers and readers who are members who may not "know" the OP that well and wouldn't have wanted to post about what they were sending because perhaps they are nervous to or simply because they are modest Smile So what was on the thread and calculations made on the basis of the posts could be very inaccurate either way.

However, the damage is done to OP's reputation I think and as someone else pointed out, thousands of people read about what went on last night.

Totally agree that a no cash-donations guideline should be in place and enforced by HQ in the same way that journalists and advertisers are dealt with. Yes, people will still offer help but if HQ set an example then they are implicitly pointing out the dangers of such action which may jolt people into being more cautious.

A sticky thread to help people who are not in the frame of mind to help themselves is also a good idea.

SantasBigSack · 21/12/2011 20:35

Ah thanks guys. And sorry to hijack the thread with the tale of woe i posted a few weeks ago. Im ok now thank you. Just about! It was a wake up cal when i stood on the bridge. Thought for hours while just staring at the water. I was like a block of ice when i got home. I confessed everything. His brother managed to help. We are looking nor a cheaper place, have been to see an advisor about budgeting and I've been to the doctor. So its a nope positive Christmas.

My point being i have been here for a few years with lots of name changes. You don.t know ANYONE on the internet. For all you know i could have been Justine! PeoPle replied in a fas different manner to me. Not that i was asking for money neither was the op. Win gets to decide who is worry of help? I think its safe to say most people have had a bit of a shit time this year. It should be ok for people to warn caution

LissTheSeasonLouBeJollie · 21/12/2011 20:35

over30's, I dont think a support thread about her recent mmc is the appropriate place to discuss this. and I am not a "supporter" in any way. I just dont think its right.

maybe she will continue to stick her head in the sand, maybe not. it doesnt affect me one way or another, but the thread last night was a bit of a train wreak in many ways. and, as has been said many times, this will go down in MN lore and develop into "mner swindles members out of thousands and bought a house in florida with the proceeds"

AwayinaKayzr · 21/12/2011 20:34

I think that JJ should be left alone on that thread. Its about her MMC not about the money.

5318hoho8 · 21/12/2011 20:32

sorry, sorry, thread moving waaaay to fast for me

MmeReindor · 21/12/2011 20:32

Northernlurker · 21/12/2011 20:30

over30s - that other thread was started by jj in the aftermath of her mmc. That's why people want you to stop attacking her there.

MmeReindor · 21/12/2011 20:30

I asked you a Q on Twitter today, shall I PM you?

smackapacca · 21/12/2011 20:30

Can we not draw a line under this and the FB debacle and let MNHQ enjoy the Xmas week?

Agree with you Chipping. Have to say I feel MNHQ are getting short shrift at the mo and that as a rule they do a bloody good job of moderating us vipers when you think about all the other stuff they do as well - Xmas appeal, webchats with Nigella and Delia spring to mind. I think that all the bitching and whining about deleted threads and the hooha about Facebook is downright unxmassy.

AgentProvocateur · 21/12/2011 20:27

Northernlurker · 21/12/2011 20:27

TSC - you are absolutely making that figure up. Most people didn't say how much they could give and there weren't that many posts before you and others turned up bitching. The OP has said how much was given - and yet you persist in disbelieving her. Tell me again what exactly this had to do with you in the first place? Except as an opportunity to be unpleasant - because honestly that's all I can see in your posting.

Oh no has there been another witch hunt troll hunt? I'm so heartily sick of people being picked apart because some posters take it upon themselves to decide that they are up to no good.

Most people post looking for advice and support. Most people respond offering advice and support. The vast majority of posters mean well. I've seen individuals singled out for quite vicious attacks and they're not always the op of the thread. They often use the excuse of helping others to make horrible, belittling comments and it makes me sick. I have been physically sick from the way I have been attacked on a thread and I'm a regular.

Some people hide behind namechanging. I think I'd like to see it restricted.

To those that would hound another poster whilst piously crying it's for everyone's benefit I say to you: Stop it. Please. You don't know what situation that poster is in; sickness, bereavement, ill children, money worries etc are not uncommon. Yes be straight talking but also be gentle. Your unkind words do hurt and it is bullying. Just think.

Exactly GML - and that speculation is being used to beat the OP with.
