I missed it all too. And having posts referring to it all obliquely is bloody annoying....

ChristmasFuckers · 21/12/2011 16:48

looks like nowdays threads are going ops way or no way

I am a grown up person and if I want to give someone money I will. Having read what is on here (didn't see the original thread) I'll contact people by pm if I want to send them something. I think giving to individuals you feel you can help is a good thing and a couple of times a year I'll give some cash to someone I think needs it if I see them in a supermarket or the street and they seem to be struggling. I much prefer this to all the secret santa nonsense which goes on on here which is just inked to knowing someone who puts your name forward.

I spent too long trying to work out what re-drug meant! Blush

RichTeaAreCrap · 21/12/2011 16:45

the threads deleted didn't help either I don't think. Why are people not allowed to post their thoughts whether they agree or not? It's only fair that everyone can have an opinion surely.

theyoungvisiter · 21/12/2011 16:44

Also, to clarify, I didn't see the thread last night. My unease has built up over a while and is not about any one specific case.

MsCellophane · 21/12/2011 16:43

richtea, although we arent supposed to be specifically discussing that situation I totally agree.

IIRC, the redrug stuff was a a poster claiming she was skint series of disasters etc, then posted about a new rug she wanted to buy. this isnt dissimilar imo.

I may be wong though, redrug was before my time.

TBH the whole idea of cash whip rounds sits really uneasily with me - even for deserving causes. I just think it's wrong that the person who shouts loudest gets most. There are loads of MNers going through tough times but not posting about it.

The board should stick to doing what it does best - offering emotional and practical support, but not financial.

FrothingBeserker · 21/12/2011 16:31

I do think that if anyone posts on a donations thread advising caution then they should not be rounded on and attacked, though.

frothing, I really, really dont know Xmas Sad maybe we should just stick to the "never give more than you can afford" mantra.

and put this whole sorry saga to bed.

although, it will be referred to again next year/time someone posts a "skint" thread.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2011 16:30

I don't get why people are worried. Take your own steps to protect yourselves.

theyoungvisiter · 21/12/2011 16:29

I too would like to see a no cash donations rule.

No asking for cash - no offering cash. If that's flouted then posts or threads should be deleted.

Organised donations should be cleared with MNHQ much like the system for journalist requests.

I agree you can't police what happens off-board but that's life - I give RL mates loans and don't expect MNHQ to police that Grin

Get0rf · 21/12/2011 16:28

I read SM as Rab C Nesbitt's wife.

FrothingBeserker · 21/12/2011 16:28

but how are they supposed to stop them, LIss?

and who is to say that if they are not coordinated by someone (who could easily be a stooge, since this is the internet and we have no idea who is who, or who knows who) they are more genuine and deserving than those not coordinated?

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 21/12/2011 16:27

I always read SM's posts in 'Mary-doll's voice from Rab. C. Nesbitt

LissTheSeasonLouBeJollie · 21/12/2011 16:27

just watched wank wink.

Get0rf · 21/12/2011 16:27

I have started a new thread about the Love God, busty, so we don't derail the thread too much Grin

I agree, I am almost heartbroken that I will never marry him.
