Whatand how can we discuss the donations??

OP posts:
immortalbeloved · 21/12/2011 18:49

Why was my post deleted? I was talking about the situation with the baby on facebook! The only mention I made of the op of yesterdays thread was that she could learn something from the mum of that baby, it wasn't an attack!

Lougle · 21/12/2011 18:49

This is a bit like a game of chicken, isn't it, MNHQ? Hmm

GypsyMoth · 21/12/2011 18:47

How did queen prove it? I think I missed that bit!

GypsyMoth · 21/12/2011 18:47

Also. We need to be aware when giving a poster cash. Many people claim benefits, so we would be contributing to benefit fraud. We could potentially get a claimant into trouble as bank statements can be requested

AwayinaKayzr · 21/12/2011 18:46

What's happened?? Confused

I only went to eat dinner

MN is full of very well intentioned people who want to help and I can see how this can be exploited. I can also see how a poster can begin to see MN as a life line, especially if their life has been terrible and they may turn to the site for things that any other person may try to sort out themselves. I don't think it's wise for posters to transfer money over to others, I think it's better that they share information and other support so that the person in need can sort out the problem themselves and get back on their feet. Otherwise, they will just keep on leaning on the site and using it as a cruch, appearing 'needy'.

FrothingBeserker · 21/12/2011 18:41

TSC - isn't the post of yours that got deleted the one discussing your dp's marathon/sponsorship? Confused

I thought maybe you had asked for deletion for revealing too much or something.

thoroughly confused.

AliBellandthe40jingles · 21/12/2011 18:40

Oh what, why have I been deleted?

I know we are not supposed to discuss the previous thread, but as I said on the original thread last night - people need to know how these things play out. Once you have seen a few then you see within a few posts of a new thread what will happen, but that only works for those that are there.

TeamDamon · 21/12/2011 18:38

I was deleted for the first time on an earlier thread about this that went poof! - apparently implying that a poster who I didn't mention by name might have started a thread in order to get donations constitutes a 'personal attack'.

Confused

I never got an explanation as to why this was so.

wannabestressfree · 21/12/2011 18:37

I would like to echo what thesecondcoming said. I have had to go to the social for help and yes you do have to be in 'crisis' but that's the point. Secondly if they are unable to help and need time to process ss are able to come out and provide food/ money for gas, electric etc but once again you have to be in real need..........
Lastly as next tuesday is a bank holiday all tax credits, child benefit etc is being paid early, this friday.

Thread deleted by Mumsnet because don't you dare start thinking you can discuss things that concern you without us censoring you.

Regardless of what has happened to the money to the OP etc, I think there's no point 'pursuing' her for an explanation or update, she clearly has no intention of doing either. Those who have donated seems happy enough to do so and hopefully, that £10/£20 would not mean any hardship for those who donated. I firmly believe it's all karma.

However, I do think MNHQ does need to put a guideline in place in relation to cash donations to personal PP/bank account. Yes, it might not prevent a repeat of what happened but it certainly will make another poster think twice about receiving cash from other posters!

Errmm...MNHQ you deleted my post. Do you KNOW how long it took to type it? Wink

Akiram · 21/12/2011 18:23

I agree SGM but as the poster, has admitted, MN is her main source of support. Therefore wouldn't you want to clear things up to ensure that you were still able to access that support without any sniping?
Like you say though, people react differently.

Lougle · 21/12/2011 18:22

My personal view on this, as a poster who has been on MN for 6½ years is this:

-MNHQ delete posts where posters break talk guidelines. It doesn't seem beneficial, to me, to delete the whole thread (although I recognise that MNHQ can do whatever they want - it's their site). All that happens when an entire thread is deleted, is that it spawns two more.

-Threads involving the passing of tangible assets (whether they be cash or food, clothes or smellies) shouldn't (IMO, again...MNHQ can do what they like) be deleted - we all know what happens. Rumours start and we get half-baked lore.

-There are very specific topics available. One is 'Credit-crunch'. Perhaps people should be encouraged to speak about their financial distresses in an appropriate topic.

-If people didn't respond to threads with offers of tangible assets, then no-one would get the idea that this is a good way of doing things.

-Perhaps MNHQ could have a think about a policy, whereby if posters want to help a MNer, they contact HQ and route it through them?

What SHOULD NOT happen is what has happened over the last day or two.
