Could we have a drop down box with available name changes?

MmeLindor. · 16/10/2011 22:31

I was wondering if this would be possible.

A drop down box when we are signed in, so that we could choose which pseudonym we want to use.

So I could have

MmeLindor for normal posting and
SaltandCaramel for blog or maybe
MeMooncupIsStuckUpMeChuff for embarrassing questions (not that it is or ever has been)

so that I don't have to keep going back and forth to MyMumsnet to change names for different threads?

Yes it would....

FreddieMercurysBolero · 23/10/2011 00:19

A 'hide the poster' option would be marvellous too.

Ineversignedupforthis · 21/10/2011 07:58

Hey Techie guy/lady! Is it any way possible to add a new emoticon....

I know you have given us the flowers, and the wine glass, and all the halloween stuff, and I am loathe to try and hassle the goose that laid the golden egg and all but...

on another site, the abbreviation ph is used for pig husband. Could we have a pig please?

Could be multi-use, as in pig of a day etc.

Have chocolate and beer at the ready....

I like the idea of deleting old names too. Some of my old ones are shit, and I'll never use them again. There is no reason for them to carry on clogging the system.

Ineversignedupforthis · 20/10/2011 15:54

I agree, would also prevent non-socket puppetry name - hogging too, and release some good names back into the system.

MmeLindor. · 20/10/2011 15:41

Inever
Maybe when Tech is banging his head on the floor in frustration looking into this, we could ask for the ability to delete old names.

In fact, why don't we limit namechanging to 5 names, and if a poster wants a different one, they have to delete one of the old ones.

That would make it more difficult for sockpuppetry.

Justine, when you bang on't shed, can I make the following point? Sorry if its been made up-thread, too stressed to take on techi-info at the mo.

A drop-down names menu would be marvellous, as has been said already, by others and myself. BUT my position, and others I'm sure is that I have name-changed becuase of OH stalking, so when I put my computer on to log-in, computer (Windows7) or MN preferences remembers my posting name, which I am no longer using in this case. A list of names would need to be available after logging in email and password, say, otherwise they immediately know all your names, and name-change is rendered completely pointless.
Brew for anyone still following... [hsmile]

FreddieMercurysBolero · 19/10/2011 00:30

Uff. Yes, if it were changed so that all OPs were highlighted, and we could have a drop down box, well, that would just be dandy wouldn't it my dears?

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 19/10/2011 00:18

Excellent idea. I set up lovely new name specially to post rather too identifiable AIBU, but then got distracted and posted loads of stuff that I probably shouldn't have, but couldn't be arsed to change name back to Selina Kyle

DeeScent · 19/10/2011 00:08

Are you keen, Justine, so those at MNTowers could more easily join in the posting fun? Wink

JustineMumsnet · 19/10/2011 00:01

Tis a marvellous thought to be sure. We shall bang on t'shed.

MmeLindor. · 18/10/2011 23:54

How come Tech has been fiddling with Chaos's box and has not come here to sort our my drop down box?

Is it because I didn't call the namechange facility rubbish? I can, if it will help.

I have to say I do hate having to retype names in when I change back, it would be nice to just select a name from a drop-down box if i've used it before.

Ineversignedupforthis · 18/10/2011 08:34

OliviaMN I am more than happy to send chocolate, does the Techie want chocolate or beer? The chocolate would be to bribe you to give the bribe to Techie [hwink]

Ineversignedupforthis · 18/10/2011 08:32

Meglet me too!. You can get a list of names you have used, but its after the double log-in, and not easily transportable between the two points, particularly if you're a bit stressed!

Meglet · 18/10/2011 07:31

Something needs to be done to make name changing easier. I keep ballsing it up, luckily not quite on UCM's scale.

SeveredHeadsDragonTheFloor · 18/10/2011 07:25

You would need the option to select which names you want from the available ones. I have about a hundred several.

SeveredHeadsDragonTheFloor · 18/10/2011 07:24

Ignore me' that was only available by the password protected name change bit.

SeveredHeadsDragonTheFloor · 18/10/2011 07:22

"My only concern would be, if someone was using my laptop/iPad I wouldn't wabnt then snooping and using the drop down to see all my name changes?"

Is the Nickname history list not still there then?

MmeLindor. · 18/10/2011 07:15

FreddieM
Keep up, dear. We have addressed the sock puppets problem.

How about some yummy tartiflette, if you don't fancy sweet stuff.

NO!

Sock Puppets!

Although it may help in identifying those that I suspect to have sock puppets..

MmeLindor. · 17/10/2011 21:42

No technical skills, you don't say.
