Come and celebrate our new [thanks] emoticon by saying Thank You to a Mumsnetter who's made a difference. Spot prizes to be won and all!

Hello.

We have a new emoticon: Thanks

It's meant as a way for say thank you to someone for something nice/funny/amazing they've done or said. And it's in no small way inspired by the lovely Mumsnet Blanket Crew who've been agitating- very politely but very persistently Wink - for a thank you emoticon for some time now. (They originally wanted a star but we thought a bunch of flowers probably had a bit less of the 'prefecty'/'sticker chart' thing going on.)

We want to mark the arrival of our new emoticon by starting this special Thank You thread - and inviting you to say Thanks to another Mumsnetter who's made a difference to you.

Perhaps it's a Mumsnetter who has posted (or PM'd) something that helped you or supported you or inspired you ? or just made you laugh like a drain. Or maybe it's someone who's done something extraordinary for you, off-board or on.

Do come and tell us about it - and thank her/him for it - here. We're hoping for a thread full of Thanks for some truly lovely MNers.

Oh, and we've also got some rather covetable prizes - books, toys and some very cool (child and adult) bike helmets from Bell - to give away as spot prizes. Anyone who posts on this thread is in with a chance of winning - we'll pull names at random out of a hat in a couple of days' time.

Thanks, MNHQ

I want to say I spelt hugs wrong in the style and manner of Chaos. Sadly, I'm just a tool.

PinotScreechio · 10/10/2011 09:51

Thanks to Beer for sensible advice and making me snurk
Thanks to Chaos for cyber-higs and hair strokes
Thanks to Wolefs for making the lair a safe place to be
Thanks to those who mentioned me - you made an old girl very happy!

CheerfulYank · 09/10/2011 08:48

Thanks to cloudydays for knowing who I am and mentioning me! It always makes me happy to be named on threads like this. I am so far away from almost all of you and have never been out of North America, but mumsnet makes me feel like I have friends all over the world. Blush

Thanks to absolutely everyone who replied on my 4 year old thread for making me feel like I'm not alone and not a terrible mother.

Thanks

to anyone who has made me smile, laugh, and feel better over the past 5 years. Much time and thought by you especially on my dark days with ex dh, dd's health and emotional problems, and to those who were so kind when I lost my dear cats. xxx

This place is a huge part of my life.

smileitssunny · 06/10/2011 16:51

Thanks to Mumsnet. All you MNers have helped keep me sane and made me giggle during many a sleepless night and day. I don't know what I did before I met you! (a lot more housework, probably... no great loss!)

WankSpanner :o bloody genius. Thanks to MrsDeVere for introducing me to my next namechange such a great insult.

DoNotPressTheRedButton · 05/10/2011 14:29

I am finally back on line because I have resorted to dongling (broadband down) and what do I find?

A thread obviously designed just to make this hardarsed old bag well up.

I am very touched and Blush to have been mentioned.

I have so many MNers to thank.

I would like to express my appreciation to everyone who has EVER taken the time to PM me and comment on my threads about my DD. I dont think you will really ever know what that means to me. Thanks

All the SN lot - I know we are sometimes seen as a mob waiting to pounce on anyone saying the wrong thing - but I know you are NOT and you are lovely and inclusive and welcoming. Thank you. Thanks

To all the wonderful MNers who contributed to my Bungalow thread. I have to make special mention of MissMarj and Mistle whose advice I could never have afforded in real life! But there are lots of others who were simply brilliant. Thanks

All those on the bereavement thread for parents who allow me to burst in every so often and shout about something then run out again. Thank you Thanks

Some very special mners who have helped me such a lot when dealing with a situation involving a young lady I was fostering and trying to support. Their openess, support and wisedom was wonderful and having people around who understood was amazing. Putting up with my PMs because I couldnt really discuss it in public was such a help. Thank you and I really hope you recognise who you are because I suspect you are all a bit too modest for your own good. Thank you Thanks

Most of all I just want to thank everyone who has ever remembered DD's name, written it down, allowed me to talk about her, encouraged me to talk about her, asked about her, told me how beautiful she is and even remembered her birthdays and anniversaries. Thank you Thanks

Now I feel like Gwenneth Paltrow or Kate Winslet Blush

grinningbee · 05/10/2011 08:04

Gosh, I'd Thanks loads of people, from the ones who were here when I was very new and had a mmc and the ladies who were on the ttc after mc threads.

But if I could only give one Thanks it would be Blooferlady because she started a thread that after taking the plunge and joining I am 3st 3lb lighter and still going Smile. I'd also offer big bunches of Thanks to the regular core of our Day of Doom list (you guys know who you are) because we keep each other going.

I nearly forgot Thanks to flowery - you helped me under a different name back in 2009. Your advice gave me the push I needed to phone my union who acted on my behalf to secure a great post when my company merged with another while I was on maternity leave. I'll be eternally grateful!
