as I know you are aware(I have the emails) people from the sn community have left this week, due to the vile things that have been said to the/or about SN.
isn't it time that mn hq took some steps to eradicate this, as you do with trolls? surely disablist/anti sn/ personal attacks should be deleted and something done about the posters.
or do we just keep loosing well informed, SN educated people from mn.
(no I can't link to a thread as there has been too many)

OP posts:
4madboys · 11/09/2011 12:11

i am replying to them best as i can 2shoes, thats all i can do unfortunately and i have to disappear in a minute to put the baby to bed and shower, but i will be back to fight this corner :)

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 11/09/2011 12:09

Stripey, none of the shit being quoted here is from the sn boards, so it all shows up in 'active convos'

I haven't finished reading this thread bit wanted to jump in with a Sad face at this.

Also wanted to say that because SN threads don't show up in Active Convos, many posters (the majority?) don't see them, or therefore engage, or challenge abusive posts. It doesn't mean that the majority of MN posters wouldn't jump down the throats of people posting nasty bullshit.

2shoes · 11/09/2011 12:05

sadly I see that you already have the excusors on there
imo that is the problem, or they are

OP posts:
4madboys · 11/09/2011 12:04

get that 2shoes, i have said on the thread that posters need to address comments when they see them and that mnhq needs to come up with a policy on dealing with the attitudes and posts towards sn.

edam · 11/09/2011 12:04

Of course, cervix, and I'm flattered that you asked!

I don't have a disabled child. But I am offended by prejudice against people with disabilities and by the hierarchy of prejudice that means most people recognise racism is wrong but tolerate discrimination against people with disabilities. It's wrong, and stupid, and illogical.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/09/2011 12:02

*then their grrr

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/09/2011 12:02

Mmelindor, I don't think it was innocent, given the posters lack of explanation their their later stupid post about teens and rubbers on the thread,i think troll.

Now, really am off, must stop reading, thanks for all the support xx

2shoes · 11/09/2011 12:00

sorry I am not posting on the other thread as imo it is already full of the normal debate,
it is a good idea, but I think asking people to respond on the threads would better, when they see the attack to say something, or report it, not to just giggle at the post.

Edam - can I borrow a sentence of yours?

edamSun 11-Sep-11 11:41:46

HQ, I have seen some ruddy nasty, prejudiced posts about SN, and you seem to be reluctant to deal with them in the same manner as you deal with, for e.g., racism. MN is an example of the hierarchy of discrimination where racism is taken very, very seriously, the others are tackled to some extent, and prejudice against the disabled is ignored.

This one? FOr the Stand up and be counted thread. Someone has just asked why.

2shoes · 11/09/2011 11:54

the theme park was dreadful and the poster should have been banned.

Tonicwater glad we are touch off board now,

OP posts:
PublicHair · 11/09/2011 11:53

apparenttly the same thing has happened to lady evenstar at a theme park recently too.
where is the thread re supporting sn parents on the board. if it's not been posted yet i am happy to kick it off, hopefully any unpleasant sentiments which appear on the thread will be left standing but challenged as examples of the crap dealt to the sn community daily on here...

MmeLindor. · 11/09/2011 11:53

The theme park thread - I do believe that Spiderpig should have been called a cunt by MNHQ for that.

I believe posters were asked why they would take their child with SN to a theme park, if it was going to cause problems.

And were told that they should not get fast passes to the rides, they should queue like everyone else.

Fanjo
The question on "distressing regression", as I understood it, was to ask what it meant. It may have been badly worded, and I can understand you being upset by it, but I don't think it was cuntishness.

4madboys · 11/09/2011 11:53

jesus christ only on p5 of the theme park thread, wtf is spiderpig on?! who is she/he?!! words fail me Shock :(

Tonicwater · 11/09/2011 11:52

I came to mn about two weeks ago. I was feeling very low at the time. I posted in the sn section and had some fantastic replies from people.

I have read some of the other sections and as a newbie I am appalled at the way some people are allowed say what they want against those with sn, and if challenged nothing happens. My dd was nt until an illness at 2.8. Over the 16 years I have had some vile comments made to me. I came here thinking things would be different how wrong I was.

Not sure I shall post anymore.

ProfessionallyOffendedGoblin · 11/09/2011 11:49

'I do love the posters that get involved even though they are not dealing with issues around sn in their own lives.

Love them'

Makes me smile when they hove into view, so recognisable and so few. Usually the same few. Smile

Pagwatch · 11/09/2011 11:47

I do love the posters that get involved even though they are not dealing with issues around sn in their own lives.

Love them

silverfrog · 11/09/2011 11:44

god, it just keeps on coming, doesn't it?

it's all so depressingly familiar.

I remember starting a thread a while back (this is to pick up on the point that a PP made, re: denouncing the fuckers, or even anyone random who happens to be reading the thread saying "oi, that's not on!") saying exactly this.

asking the general readers of MN who stumble across these threads to just post saying "hey, that's not nice/right/lay off"

iirc, I had a lot of replies saying "but you can't expect posters to do that"

this is supposed to be a community.

we are all supposed to feel included.

but when a thread turns bad, very few posters do stand up. it tends ot be the same old few, and then of course, that opens us right up to be challenged as "professionally offended"

it is bloody tiring, tbh.

fanjo, sorry you are going. and glitter. and anyone else who has been relentlessly challenged on issues which are nobody else's business, or who have been mocked, scorned, ignored and belittled.

and still mnhq do nothing.

how many times, over the last couple of years, have we had these threads now? asking for help; asking for a consistent policy, asking for anyhting which might stop SN being singled out as an easy target.

and it never materialises.

which says it all, really.

At the moment you seem to be far too trigger-happy when it comes to completely irrelevant and unnecessary demands to delete posts merely because someone demands it, no matter what the merits of the case, yet real hatred directed towards people with disabilities is tolerated and allowed to stand.

This is not a new problem - has been happening for ages - except that you have become terribly happy to delete any post, no matter what the cause, bar those about disability.

Pagwatch · 11/09/2011 11:41

Atyourcervix

It is beyond comprehension really isn't it?

4madboys · 11/09/2011 11:40
