Hi all,
We've launched Gransnet today. It mimics the Mumsnet format but is for Grandparents, so they can chat about and pool ideas on their grandchildren, hobbies, relationships and anything else they fancy. If you know any Grans please do point them to Gransnet.com. NB any Grans on MN who'd rather hang out here are most welcome to do so and under no obligation to go to Gransnet but if you fancy taking a look, please feel free. (You could always do both Smile)
Any feedback is very welcome here. Txs

Hi Justine

  • I've been over for a quick look at the new gransnet site.
Looks like perhaps you can't give any feedback there without joining, so I thought I'd just share some thoughts here if that's OK.
  • I see you have a link on the home page to "Do's and Don'ts for grandparents"
When I read through this I felt it could perhaps be a bit off-putting to some potential new members of gransnet It is, after all, a site for them. Thought this section seemed a little as though it was written from a parents perspective. I'm sure you get my drift. Just trying to help with some ideas for a new site, which will hopefully go on to be a great source of support for grans and co. around the country, as mumsnet is for many of us Smile

I'm sorry to be sniggering, but the complaints about the logo are really making me so, especially this one:

At least put the gran in a nice blouse from per una

DottyDot · 07/05/2011 15:31

Awww - it reminds me of Mumsnet a gazillion years ago - all new and hardly any threads! Grin

sumum · 07/05/2011 11:13

I think all user names are up for grabs, I have registered under a different name so I can't be traced back here

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/05/2011 08:30

So are the user names started from scratch over there? Could I be AnyFucker...well, AnyFlipper given the lack of swearing. Or Cod? :o

DD is only 3 but I'm going to register just to say I was there. I would tell my mum about it but then I'd have to explain the concept of the Internet and show her what a computer looks like.

RustyBear · 07/05/2011 08:24

Maybe we could open a BBBBAAAAAARRRRR over there....

Shoshe · 07/05/2011 08:19

Have joined, cos I am a Gran Grin

cheesetoastie · 07/05/2011 08:07

I've found the bigger text button now, but that makes all the links at the bottom of the page merge with the Preview and Post buttons so now I can't post.

cheesetoastie · 07/05/2011 07:59

How can I make the font bigger? The content looks interesting but my mum would not be happy reading the text at the current size.

usualsuspect · 07/05/2011 00:37

Fair enough

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/05/2011 00:22

There are now several posters there commenting about Gransnet being 'more civilised' and glad that there isn't any swearing!

In a way, I think that's a good thing - Gransnet has to establish its own identity and to be there for its own users. If they don't want swearing, then that's how they will steer the site.

usualsuspect · 07/05/2011 00:06

I am a grandparent though

I won't ever post on there again ..because its not me

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/05/2011 23:58

It's difficult isn't it, the whole swearing thing. On the one hand, it seems silly/outdated/old fashioned, etc - on the other hand, I'm aware that I'm not a grandparent yet and I'm only over on gransnet trying to bump threads, help get it going, etc.

So my views are not really what matters.

usualsuspect · 06/05/2011 23:00

I didn't fill in the age bit

I swore over there Shock

Divawithattitude · 06/05/2011 22:59

lavandes · 06/05/2011 22:58

Just registered but couldn't bring myself to fill in the age bit. Why did I do it!!!!!!!!!!!

Divawithattitude · 06/05/2011 22:47

no, you have that wrong about the swearing........we are working on encouraging it!!

usualsuspect · 06/05/2011 21:52

I'm definitely not posting over there

Because it is big and clever Grin

crazynanna · 06/05/2011 21:33

hormones definitely down on the swearing over there.

As one poster said with determination over there..it's not big and it's not clever!

crazynanna · 06/05/2011 21:17

teafortwo Scary? Moi?....I am honoured you even think so Grin

hormonesnomore · 06/05/2011 19:22

I registered but don't think I'll be posting much.

You can't change your username!!! - Justine, why?

And swearing is frowned upon.

teafortwo · 06/05/2011 13:32

teafortwo · 06/05/2011 13:19
