At least he was honest. He didn't vote to make things better for himself, his family, neighbourhood or for the good of the UK. He voted to piss people off.

What contradictions?

There are four off so factual claims, none of which contradicts any of the others.

You can’t exactly blame the guy if he saw an Oxbridge comedian with a bin on his head being offered to him and decided not to play along.

You can't exactly blame people for not playing along with the private school educated city trader - turned professional politician who claims to be a man of the people. Who wonder whether a 'personal gift' of £5 million might, just might, have a few strings attached. Especially when the man of the people doesn't want it known about or questioned.

Was there a candidate from another party? Because, with the best will in the world, if other parties don't field candidates, the one party who does will win. Independents rarely win elections.

Save your disgust for Labour and the opposition parties who could have fielded candidates and chose not to.

Where are you getting your info? The right parties boycotted the election just as the left ones did. Badenoch has been very critical, and her main message to Clacton voters highlighted it. Rupert Lowe said he planned to end Farage’s career over it, though he seems to have softened since.

Of course not. I’d have voted for Binface and I’m no fan of Farage and pretty sceptical of reform.

My post was a reply to a PP who got on her high horse at a Clacton Reform voter who said he voted to “annoy the lefties”.

He’s perfectly entitled to vote for that reason and to think he’s only returning in kind the type of attitude being shown to him by those who sent him a bin to vote for and no proper parties.

If you're talking about me, I wasn't on any high horse with yer man's comment about annoying lefties. He voted against his own interests and that of his community to piss other people off and said so. I admire his honesty.🤷‍♀️

Id say Farage has actually lost. Firstly a population of over 100,000 he got less than 25% of the vote. He won an election against candidates that were there to join the circus.

He calls it a win against the establishment....but the only one representing the establishment was himself. A toff who's a member of the Indian gentleman's club that bars women from its ranks. Farage is very much the establishment.

The investigation continues, his dodgy affairs can't be ignored and won't go ignored.

He lied, he was scared to attend and blamed advice from the police...yet the police deny giving that advice.

I agree. Plus, ultimately Clacton is just a stepping stone to get to power. Hand picked as the constituency in the country he was most likely to win and hold no matter what.

The question is whether he can then win in other constituencies. It will be interesting to see the impact in other constituencies, and with people who were thinking of voting Reform but aren't core supporters - the people he needs to win over to get into real.power.

As someone who's left leaning I would unfortunately like to point out too many in my own political group do exactly the same with the right calling everything fascism or far right to suit their whims.

It's a sad thing to see as this behaviour on both sides is very damaging to democracy in a way that could if left unchecked lead to some incredibly unpleasant outcomes.

Nigel started the game to distract from the £5 million quid hidden in a shoebox under his bed. Nobody was obliged to play. When it stopped going his way the threw strop and fucked off to Nigelfest taking his ball with him. He didn’t even have the decency to thank his voters, the council workers who had stayed up all night to administer his farce, and he called the other contestants ‘nobodies’, most of whom were residents of Clacton. Rude fucker. He’s a precious little twat, isn’t he? He can dish it but he can’t take it.

Binface is a BBC comedy writer who has stood mainly against Tory leaders, whose policies insofar as they are political are broadly left ish, who Dale Vince has publicly supported and offered to fund, and who Starmer from the dispatch box got pretty close to endorsing (“put your vote in the bin” in an exchange about Binface).

It’s not a huge stretch to see him as a left candidate.

I get that it’s easier to pick this Clacton man up for being a thicko for seeing it that way. But I think for as long as that’s the instinct, Farage politics is going to keep winning.

This isn't true. Less than 25% of the electorate see immigration as a top priority, and even those that do care about other things, like the cost of living, the NHS, housing and how much money they have in the pockets.
Its no coincidence that Reform draws its voters from people who are less well off and more dependent on our failing services, even where immigration is not an issue in their locality. Because they've been trained to see controlling immigration as the key to unlock a better life.
The PM just needs to continue as he's started, doing what he can to improve people's everyday lives across all the issues that effect them.
The government already has an immigration strategy. They don't need to take lessons from the one trick pony Reform.
It would take a drastic turnaround for Farage to have a chance at a majority, with both Labour and Tories to compete with and Reform on a downward slide.
