Just wanted to vent and see if anyone is in the same boat atm.

We’ve been TTC number 2 for about 6 cycles now and I got another BFN this morning, at around 11/12dpo. I got my hopes up this month as we really put work into it (! - not easy with a toddler) and I have been having cramps for a few days, which was a symptom with my previous pregnancies (dd1 plus an mc).

We conceived dd1 fairly easily, in about 3 months (although this came right after the miscarriage at 7 weeks, which also took about 3 cycles to conceive). So I naively hoped this one would be quick too.

DD1 is 20 months now and I'm starting to worry about the age gap and whether she'll have a sibling (I know I'm getting ahead of myself). I regret every time I asked parents if they were planning another!!! It's such a tough question to answer when you're trying.

I’m finding myself worrying that something has changed and reduced our fertility. In particular, my dh is now on antidepressants which could potentially affect motility. It would be a big effort for him to stop taking these as they've helped him so much. Another factor could be the fact I had a c section, but I don’t know much about about this. We're also now a few years older (35 and 36). Also, I'm still breastfeeding a bit. But my cycles are pretty regular so I don't think this is affecting things too much - any thoughts on this?

I know that really 6 months isn't very much in the great scheme of things, but it stung this month to see the BFN!

We took 18 months to concieve our second so I understand all your feelings. Loads of my NCT friends got pregnant when we were trying. DS was just turned 3 when I finally got pregnant but actually the gap doesn't feel huge, they have a nice bond and play together. I loved being on mat leave when he started school and met loads of people with a 3 or 4 or 5 year gap (including actually the other half of my nct group who got pregnant after me) . So I wish I'd stressed less about the age gap.

Our issue was male factor in the end it turned out but we got lucky/ DH made some changes. I was 36 when I got pregnant. NHS can do bloods and sperm sample but not much else but it's a start.

So sorry you’re feeling like that @ForestWren, has your afternoon been any better? Is there definitely no more hope for you this month, is AF definitely arriving..?

things that helped me first time around when I also struggled TTC was planning a nice activity (usually involving alcohol!) as soon as AF arrived to “make the most” of not being pregnant whilst I still struggled to get there. Bit different when you’ve already got a toddler.. difficult to do! Wish I could say something to make it better but being in the same shoes, I know it’s just shit and it’s just a case of riding it out I guess?

you have a v good view on accepting an only child if it comes to that . I don’t have that myself at all. I’ve always wanted a big family. I think I’ve just left it too late for that to be straight forward…. Common problem these days

ForestWren · 19/09/2026 12:08

didnt quite make it to nap time and had a cry in the playground 😂 but feel slightly better now.

One of the worst things about this is how I’m worried people will ask us if we’re going to have another and I’ll have to tell them we’re trying or be vague. Also having to do testing - both of us. Husband will hate that - but will do it ofc. Feels more invasive doing a sperm sample than a blood test! Also have to go to the hosp for it annoyingly.

Feel so lucky that things were fairly simple the first time, even with a miscarriage. But if our life is just the three of us, that will be wonderful, I know. Lots of benefits to just having one. But right now I feel like there might be room for one more. We’ll keep trying.

@ForestWreni feel for you - uncanny reading your post. I am in almost exactly the same boat, all the ages and dates basically the same as well. I was relentlessly DTD this month and yet just started bleeding 8dpo?! I’m so depressed. Exhausted. I’m going to contact the doctor next week but know they’re basically never helpful / take years with this stuff.

I’ve also massively reduced BF, boobs are mostly empty now anyway. Can I ask how you get your little one to sleep without BF now - how did you do the transition? That’s mostly the only “feed” I have left but not much comes out anyway. Thanks x

It’s so hard isn’t it! Sorry to hear this month didn’t work, and odd it was so early - is that unusual for you? You had a weird month last month where I had a long cycle. I think I’ll was can do it.

I think my period has just started so I’m feeling crap too. Was even having nausea and was maybe day later than I would expect. Feels cruel. Having bloods tested on Monday so I guess there’s a next step. So hard not to get your hopes up. My symptoms were totally different this month. Feel very sad. Going to push through til nap time then have a cry then!!

Re feeding to sleep it’s mainly my husband! But I can sometimes rock her to sleep if I need to. But she will ask to feed. They have a whole routine of cuddles, turning on sound machine, closing door, rocking and shushing etc. She can SOMETIMES get to sleep via patting, which they always do at nursery. But doesn’t work for me!

Also SO strong willed of you not to have tested yet despite being 12DPO! Everything crossed for you.

It worked the last two times I conceived! I had it before ovulation and 4dpo this time. Currently 12dpo but haven’t tested yet. Symptom spotting but we’ll see.

nice to hear your success story! Can I ask what hormonal issues it helped?

@ForestWrenMy FSH was much higher than it should have been- I was 31 at the time so it was a bit of a shock. I was meant to have it rechecked 6 weeks later but didn’t because I got pregnant in that time!
I didn’t actually revisit the issue until last year and was, subsequently, diagnosed with POI at almost 40. However, I have had hypothyroidism for many years and this is recognised as being an influencer of early menopause. That being said, I still have regular periods now and did manage conceive, so who knows??
I hope this doesn’t scare you- the numbers from the tests do not always mean something either way, and my experience is proof of that. At the same time, it’s worth asking for the GP to have a look, as some things can be fairly easily addressed.
Good luck with it all 🍀

@ForestWrenit took me 11 cycles to conceive my second. I did have some hormonal issues that were picked up at the end of this time, and so did some research about what could help. Read about acupuncture so took myself off to have a session of that- conceived the next month! I’ll never know it was coincidence or not, but just doing something extra to potentially help things along also made me feel more in control. I’d recommend giving it a go, if you can afford it

What vitamins is everyone trying?

I started some new ones last month but they seem to have caused some pre period spotting so wondering whether to stop

Used Wild Nutrition last time I conceived but can’t afford it this time! Just pregnacare but I’m aware of the issues with it lengthening cycles.

9dpo here and bfn. Pretty sure it's not my month and finding it all very negative

Sorry to hear about the blood tests - it sounds like you are in a similar place to use as our miscarriage baby would have been born in January. We are keeping everything open until we've been trying at least a year and then will consider IVF

ForestWren · 11/09/2026 16:55

HappyBlueDonkey · 11/09/2026 15:13

How are things going for you?

I had some bloods and they’re abnormal so we may be facing IVF or similar. Going to give it a few months and lose some weight and then look into it properly in the new year. Devastating though as I should’ve been having a baby in January

Oh I’m so sorry - can I ask what the abnormalities were if you feel comfortable sharing? I need to look into cutting down on sugar and losing weight too. Just putting it off. I’m the same weight I was when I got pregnant with my LG but I guess I’m nearly three years older.

im having bloods done at the end of the month (unless I get preg I guess) so im interested in what abnormal looks like.

have had my two rounds of accupuncture, now 5dpo so will wait and see. Managed to hit the right dates and had a good ovulation surge on the sticks so I feel sort of hopeful. But also feel like I have some work to do to get to peak health.

Got that dupe Oura ring to try and track bbt but pretty sure it doesn’t work for that. Skin temp isn’t the same. Interesting to see how my sleep is affected by my toddler though.

wishing luck to everyone! Anyone in two week wait too?

So sorry about your chemical - so tough to go through. It's very difficult when you start thinking in age gaps isn't it. There are so many people who warn against two under two though, so there may be a silver lining to this. That's how I'm trying to think! I totally understand how you feel but 28 is still so young. Wishing you loads of luck.

We're about to go into the fertile period again. Hoping we can give it a good go. And (not to bang on about it) I have accupuncture booked for before and after ovulation.

Then the blood test's towards end of Sept (assuming this time doesn't work!) ]

I'm just throwing some energy and money at the problem this month to see if it helps.

Oh and I've bought an Oura ring dupe to see if I can track some kind of BBT while still being up in the night with my toddler. Don't think it can work! But I have my data from previous months so I can at least compare.

Edited

Not really. Main symptoms are very heavy and painful periods. I would say mine are pretty heavy for a day or two but not insanely so. And not especially painful. Treatment seems to only be for the symptoms as far I can tell.

Overall relatively positive outcome. I was terrified it was the niche thing and that therefore it was caused by my decision to have a x section (in the midst of a failed induction).

Firsttimerugbymum · 04/09/2026 18:35

OttilieKnackered · 03/09/2026 23:11

I went for the scan. Good news is I don’t have the niche things. Ovaries all looking healthy and with follicles as expected.

She did find some adenomyosis. I think that can make it harder to conceive but was given the impression there’s not really a treatment for it beyond treating symptoms and she said it’s def not a red line against getting pregnant.

Sounds positive at least that it wasn't the issue you were concerned about and they were positive.

2dpo here so another tww but not feeling optimistic after DHs test results last week

Hi all, I am also struggling with TTC number 2. LO is 15 months old and we’ve been trying since the spring. We really wanted an 18 month gap and it was happening but then I had a chemical. I am also still breastfeeding. Didn’t have a c section but had forceps. This is our last chance to have 2 under 2 and it’s making me so sad. It happened month 1 with DC1 but I was 25 and now I’m coming up 28

I have contacted a local clinic and for £250 they can do a scan that the lady is confident would diagnose it if there and will also be able to have a look at general state of ovaries etc.

Do you think you’ll go for that? £250 is a lot but not bankrupting I suppose! And worth it to know.

This is what I’m worried about too! It does seem to be a common reason for secondary / unexplained infertility following a C-section. I’ve seen so many posts on here about it! But it seems a long road to get that diagnosed as the problem and then even longer to fix it.

Also been trying for 9 months and absolutely nothing. It is so hard, 9 months feels like an age. Sorry you are feeling so shitty. It really does suck.

I’m in the same boat. 9 cycles now and nada. No hint of a positive. GP was great in ordering blood tests but they’ve come back normal which I suspected as very regular periods.

Then I was reading today about secondary infertility and read about uterine scarring causing a pouch which retains fluid and makes it hard for a fertilised egg to implant. One symptom is super long periods which I’be had since having my son and I’m now convinced that’s what’s happening.

Im gonna book a private scan as soon as my period starts and go from there but feeling quite despondent as we couldn’t afford the repair surgery privately and im way too old to wait for the NHS.

Feeling pretty despondent about it today. It’s shit.

Yes he is the father of my first, born Jan 24 so guess three years ago now

Firsttimerugbymum · 28/08/2026 18:44

ForestWren · 28/08/2026 17:13

So sorry to hear this. Sending love.

Is he the father of your first? Can you think of any specific changes that might have happened to cause this? How old is your first?

I imagine it might take some time to process. I’ve heard of people really turning their sperm health around with lifestyle changes, but don’t know a huge amount about it.

Such a tough thing to hear. Feel free to keep venting here if useful.

In one way I'm glad as at least we know and can target things, rather than the disappointment every month.

We will try some supplements and lifestyle changes and do another test in 3 months, but not feeling overly optimistic as we already don't drink, smoke, have caffeine

There's nothing that's changed, except obviously we are older and more tired! Maybe that is enough to have an impact - reading through the threads after searching it does seem common
