When is it ok (physically) to resume sex life?

Looking for some advice... Have recently given birth, and am feeling like i might like to have sex with dp again. I had stitches. Should i be waiting until my 6week check up or is it ok to go ahead if i'm feeling physically up to it? All contributions / opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

HERE'S A SAD (FAB) TALE: Neither dh or I felt like it for a few months after our daughter's birth. (I think dh was just being understanding/polite) After 6 months we decided to go for it big time. I had a fantastic night (TMI). A night to remember. First time since she was born. Quality, not quantity, eh?
I had a positive pregnancy test 2 weeks later.
I say go for it as soon as you (both?) feel ready - BUT BEWARE!!

gpsh...we didn't even CONSIDER it before 12 weeks, and then we were holiday, and dd had just started sleeping through the night and we had help form family, never even thought of it before then!!! Just too knackered!!!

I'm impressed!

I'd definitely suggest giving it a whirl before your 6 week check up. I did, and fortunately it meant that I was able to say to dr that no way were the sttches "right". Ended up being restitched when dd was 7 - 8 months old. Thankfully all well now, and experience fading into memory, along with how painful childbirth was!

Took me about 2 months after a c-section.

But we did sneak out of the hospital for a quick bunk up the night before DD born as I was 2 weeks overdue and no sign. Was told it would help!!!

Was very funny doing a moonlight flit for a quick shag at the size of a small whale. DP even pretended to enjoy it too - bless him!!

shudder..... i too have just given birth the thought of having sex let alone the time for it is just inconceivable! surely its not going to be that pleasant being stretched an all down there maybe you had a c section? I didn't tear had a normal V birth but wouldn't consider it until I felt tip top, can't remember how long it took first time around. Good luck if youre up for it I would just go for it but as everyone has said be careful!

fio2 - oh my word!! I simply cannot believe you. Surely not?

Dejags, i'm slightly worried now too. Thought if you were bf then that was natural contraception, esp in these early days. I wld die off if went to 6wk check up only to discover was pregnant again. Yikes! Bought big box of rubbers today as a result ( dp laughed when he saw how many was in the box - he checked the sell by date and announced it was just as well they have such a long shelf life!!)

Umm, dejags - would it be a good idea to chat to your GP? you can't rely on your calendar to say 'yuu're late' post pregnancy, can you? The cahnces must be slim - but it might beworth a caht to put you mind at rest.

ok now I am seriously worried - I didn't tear and had no abrasions or anything after DS2 was born 3 weeks ago - despite him having a 38cm head.

DH and I resumed relations after 2 weeks and it was GREAT!!!!! (sorry couldn't resist), now I am terrified I could be pregnant again - Doc told me I shouldn't go back on the pill till 28 days after birth...

Reassurance please?

OMG It was months after ds when I finally gave in to a whining dh, and after a huge epiosiotomy, ventouse and forceps it was painful. It still didn't feel right about 12 months after

I think I was stitched by a trainee, I swear it's an 'L shape' now

bundle - that's will be why it took you so long for your first AF. lactational amenorrhea tends to be a good but not 100% reliable contraceptive!

This may be TMI, but I had a very dirty dream about my husband the night after DD1 was born. I was extremely horny post-natal and it was hard to wait 4 weeks, even with an episiotomy, so I can understand how it could be possible to get pregnant so quickly.

The thought of being pregnant with such a tiny newborn, though... shudder...
