Ok so DH and I cannot agree.

We don't know the sex but are a bit more stumped with girls names.

I love both Cecily and Helena, he thinks they are ponsy. I also love Romily but a close friend has named her baby that about 6 months ago. Same with beatrice and martha.

Dh likes names that are now too popular in my opinion (I think the are nice but I have a popular name and it drove me bonkers at school). eg Poppy, Hannah, Evie, Olivia

Can you help??? Think this baby might be nameless... Looking for classy names that won't date, are pretty but not too girlie and ideally outside the top 30/50.

Boys - maybe alexander or adam. urrghh who knows.

DS 1 is Louis.

HELP!!!!!!
(have name changed)

Honour
Laura
Faith
Grace

I think these old-fashioned names just sound so beautiful. Even if the sentiment is not so fashionable ATM, they are just gorgeous sounds.

My god daughter is called Eloise - not sure that's been mentioned yet and might fit with what you're looking for.

Love Ottilie, Sophia (but she might get called Sophie a lot and whilst that is a nice name too, it isn't half irritating when people only 'nearly' get your childs name), Clara is lovely and I once knew a little girl called Maude which was really cute although I think you'd have to have a big personality to carry it off. Like Imogen too - unusual but not too unusual.

But, you know, I think Helena is great and if that's what you've set your heart on - well, go for it!

We have a Clara and have had loads of positive feedback because it's classic but not dated. HV said it was really nice to see one because all girls are Mia or Maya in our area

We loved Helena too but sister got in first!

Elsa! Not old ladyish - it's so achingly beautiful!

Abubu · 29/10/2009 16:39

Helena - best name in the world.

Mind you I am biased because if you remove 1 letter it is my name

cloelia · 29/10/2009 16:35

Do you like Elaine? It is near to the French pronunciation of Helena so Helena could just slither in without him noticing .
Lily is a great name;
Rosamund
Elizabeth
what about something easy but not common nowadays like Caroline (I love this name, and Carrie for short)
Or Katherine called Kitty?

You let him decide the middle name and put your foot down about Helena! She'll be a cute Helena baby,a strong-willed Helena child and a beautiful elegant Helena woman. Also you rarely hear of the name.Good luck!
