Kaelyn?

Struggling with names for soon to be DD (due in 3 weeks - eek!).

We wanted to go a bit off-piste, as we can't stand 95% of the top 100 girls' names, and had got as down to Keira or Kyra.

DS found Kaelyn on a baby name site, and we both absolutely love it, but it does seem very American (although apparently it's an old English name meaning waterfall).

Thoughts of the Mumsnet collective?

If you like 'k' names how about Keeley? I think it's more stylish and cool.

DP and I were really struggling to think of girls name and he is very keen on Cailin (this spelling rather than Kaylyn). It started growing on me but i was worried about were we live, near glasgow, and people would constantly think it was Caitlin and we were just lazy and didn't pronounce the T (think Katie and Natalie).

I still think it's pretty but the pronunciation really puts me off. so we're back to square one!

dd has a friend named Kaylyn and she is evvvvil, a horrid child, i dread her coming to the door for dd cos shes trouble, she is only 6

I do like Kyra, which is wierd because a lot of K names sound made-up and American

Don't like it, sorry. Keira is very popular because of Ms Knightly. You could always go for Irish (Ciara) or Scots Gelic spelling (Ciera) to be more original.

Very American-ish. I prefer the Irish name Caoilfhionn (or Keelan as it's pronounced, pretty much) Keira and Kyla are nice too.

Oh God Kaelyn is awful awful awful, unless you are a teenage mum living in a rough housing estate and the biggest ambitions you have for your DD are working in Argos and getting you discounts on the jewelery

i think its lovely so is keira. agree that kaylin is a nicer spelling of it though.
a friend of dh's has two dd's 1 called keira and 1 called keisha
