Is Sebastian insanely popular where you live?

If we ever had a third boy, we'd be seriously stuck for names. I have always loved Sebastian but nixed it based on popularity. Around here it's as common as Andrew or Michael was in the 70s and 80s! My husband thinks it's too posh though, which saddens me.

So how many have you come across? I think there are three at my sons' daycare of about 60 kids. I don't care if it's mildly popular but not on the level that Jack is, for example.

I can honestly say that Sebastian is quite popular enough in Surrey, thank you. One is quite enough (DS1). No more required.

My s-i-l was at boarding school in the late 80s and says it was popular then with abb Basti

I am in W London in a very private school sort of area and only know of 2 Sebastians. Love the name, as the coolest guy I knew at uni was named Seb.

I am always surprised at how I never hear Sebastian. Obviously, I love it and 18yrs ago my best friend named her DS Sebastian and in all these years and even after 3 dc myself I have never met or even known another Sebastian. I live in Surrey and my dc have gone to 3 different schools. Being a name watcher I am astonished that there has not been even one.
I can safely say, if you are in Surrey, Sebastian is not popular. Even after 18 yrs it is still my favorite name.

I have one, aged 5.

There was one other at my DD's prep school and I heard one being holllered at asked to return to his mother recently whilst out - I live in Kent.

I know of at least one other of a similar age on here - there have been other Sebastian threads iirc.

DS is a Sebastian, he is 16 months. I have only met 2 others, one was at college many years ago and one was at our local school but has moved on now as his parents were Army.

There is onein dd2's school, aged 7. I used to work with one, he was lovely. Not posh, but v arty.

I love the name.

Seriously, I thinks its a bit wet. Even though if I were a boy I was going to be a Sebastian.

I am expecting a girl but Sebastian was on our boys shortlist I love it, although I am not too keen on the NN Seb. I don't know any Sebastians and never hear it when I go to any toddler groups with my two year old son. I am in Surrey.... go for it, its a great name!

I like Sebastian a lot. I live in East Sussex too and know one in his 30's and one I used to go to toddler group with who must be 8 or so now.

I live in surrey and surprisingly don't know any sebastians. I know two arthurs though and lots of georges.

PS Also apologise for this Geordie hijack. One particular Geordie name thing (was reminded by Our Friends in the North) I can't stand is pronouncing Anthony 'An-thu-nee'. ugh ugh ugh. And funnily enough, amongst all the Kevins there were always quite a few 'Ants' up there. But no Sebastians.

Aha motheroftwo - it must be that school. I was at the 'brown one' across the road. Anyway, definite bunch of Declans, Kevins, Keiths etc on your side of the track way back when (and can't recall any Sebastians).

I like Sebastian, I've tried to persuade dp to like it too but he seems fairly stuck with Edward or George for ds1 but neither of them are really grabbing me tbh.

never met a local MNetter before sorry persephone for the hijack !

DD is staying where she is, but DS1 (not a Seb as previously mentioned) might move the 2 miles down the road in a couple of years.
