Is Astrid cool or cruel?

I've posted about Astrid before a while back (Astrid vs. Ingrid), so sorry if you saw that. DH had vetoed it on the grounds of the teasing/bullying potential of 'ass', but at the last minute has changed his mind (I have less than a week to go - hopefully!) Now I'm wavering slightly although I think I prefer it to Ingrid, still our only alternative. What do people think?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ooh no. You're all mad, it's really horrible and cold (not cool) sounding. Reminds me of arid/bare/empty. Or astringent.

Would never have occured to me to worry about the ass bit though.

Astrid is definately cool (see film 'Backbeat' for the proof! Agree that it may be the new Freya. I have to say nonoNo! to Saskia tho, sorry

AnotherBloodySugaBabe · 24/09/2009 11:57

As you know I like Astrid and Ingrid too (although DH has said no to Ingrid, so really we are between Astrid and Saskia.

My middle name is Astrid and the only thing I ever got teased about was Asterix, but this was back in the 80s so no one now would make the connection.

When we moved to England I got more teased for my first name (Victoria) and for being from Holland - remember Viki the Viking?! Well that was me.

To be honest children will find anything to pick on... don't worry about it!!

ScummyMummy · 23/09/2009 19:46

I really like it. I like Ingrid too.

daisy71 · 23/09/2009 18:49

Very nice, cool but cute

catinthehat2 · 23/09/2009 18:46

I think it may become the new Freya.....

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/09/2009 18:36

cool

juneybean · 23/09/2009 18:32

I just noticed two siblings on facebook called Astrid and Imogen and I just thought what a lovely pair of names.

So I think Astrid is lovely!

MaggieBeauLeo · 23/09/2009 18:30

Prefer Ingrid, and Olga, or Anya, prefer most names to Astrid. It's very cold, and it reminds me of a seal.

In spanish and ugly woman is a seal not a dog, so maybe that turns me off it more than is fair.

donnie · 23/09/2009 18:20

unfortunately it makes me think of Astrid Proll.

belcantwait · 23/09/2009 18:19

KleineMaus · 23/09/2009 18:13

Hooray! Astrid it is then. Thank you to everyone for their positive responses.

I think you can carry the fear of teasing and bullying too far, and I love the name.

BitOfFun · 23/09/2009 16:23

Love.

VerityBrulee · 23/09/2009 16:21

I love it.

said · 23/09/2009 16:19

I think it's dead cool but it does crop up a lot on mn if that bothers you. Don't know any in RL

Luxmum · 23/09/2009 15:01

I love it. It's going on my shortlist now (which now has over 40 names...)

Squishabelle · 23/09/2009 13:54

Swedish isnt it?

Squishabelle · 23/09/2009 13:54

Great name.

hambo · 23/09/2009 13:52

Love Astrid.

I might steal it!

(don't worry - not pregs and if I was it would be a boy...)

bellissima · 23/09/2009 13:52

cool. like it.

minervaitalica · 23/09/2009 13:50

Looove Astrid. It's a common name for princesses in Belgium isn't it?

Not sure re: Ingrid... It reminds me of a very scary Swedish lady I used to know.

TheMightyToosh · 23/09/2009 13:46

Cool - very 60s IMO, reminds me of that girl who used to hand out with the Beatles (I think, or was it the Rolling Stones? Anyway, you get my drift)
