What do you think of the name Martha?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love Martha, it just has a lovely sound to it and is a great grown-up name too. Feminine without being sickly sweet like a lot of girls' names. You can imagine Martha being a ballerina or a high court judge.

It's not too try-hard either - IMO good taste always trumps a burning desire to prove your fascinating originality!

Love it

I have a Martha - she's an adult now but as a little girl there was a confusing phase where she found it difficult to say her name (along with a couple of her friends) and so for a while she was Arthur to some.

I love it, but it is common as in used a lot.

cockles · 14/09/2009 15:42

meek and domestic

Pannacotta · 14/09/2009 15:36

I really like it, had we had a girl she would have been Martha.
Sounds gutsy/spirited to me...

nickelbabe · 14/09/2009 15:34

i like the name.

BoF: i always thought she had a good point in that though: the emphasis in those times was for women to spend all their time looking after men's needs, so she was only doing that.
but i bet jesus didn't think that he would help with washing up later when he'd finished the story.

I know several

popular but quite nice

midnightexpress · 14/09/2009 15:30

Love it. It sounds kind of American to me - I imagine home baking and handmade quilts. In a good way.

BitOfFun · 14/09/2009 15:28

Hmm, Martha in the Bible puts me off tbh. Doesn't she run round like a little servant being all martyrish when Jesus visits, and then have a rant at ther sister for being a lazy fecker just listening to him instead of washing up?

bigchris · 14/09/2009 15:23

i like it

i know one

southernbelle77 · 14/09/2009 15:22

Really like it, but it is becoming quite popular if that bothers you.

KaDeWeh · 14/09/2009 15:22

Becoming common...
