Thinking of boy's names - need some help!

I am only 21 weeks so there's no desperate hurry. We don't know whether we are having a girl or a boy and hope to keep it that way so are trying to pin down both names.

The girls names seem a bit easier to think of/agree on than the boys. I love Gabriel but OH says no way! OH likes Ethan but I'm not 100%. I'm thinking of Lewis at the moment - what do you think of this name? Also, any other suggestions would be greatly received.

Many thanks!

No, I have never seen the Wire! Just a coincidence

mathanxiety · 05/09/2009 00:34

Nathaniel? It's quite close to Ethan, but it has a nicer sound, imo.

notimetoshop · 04/09/2009 23:10

Carver, that was it! He was gorgeous, clever, kind. I hope that is him, my DH says 'yes, he's the one you liked' in a kind of bored voice.

I did want to call DS, Jack, after Jack Bauer, but was told that was silly.

I do find that whatever you choose, it's likely to be on the back of the ever expanding Thomas the Tank Engine books.

nathaniel, james ,daryl, or stuart elliott. my son was called nathaniel, in heaven now at peace.

cyteen · 04/09/2009 22:07

How about Frank?

I must say, Lester has been growing on me as a name ever since I started watching The Wire...

totalmisfit · 04/09/2009 20:15

just realised this is a request for boys names and i've suggested loads of girls

totalmisfit · 04/09/2009 20:15

How did this thread turn into a Wire discussion?! God, i love that show... loads of great baby name ideas besides being the best thing that's ever been shown on tv.

what about...
Kima
Beatrice (i'm so nicking that one anyway)
Rhonda (or Ronnie as McNulty would say)
Felicia
Marlo
Avon

Although Ziggy, Cedric and Horseface might be best avoided

cyteen · 04/09/2009 10:41

lol at the Wire suggestions How about Butchie?

OrangeAnge · 04/09/2009 10:35

Just had an update from OH (Wire addict!):

Ellis Carver or Liander Sidnor...

Thank you for all your suggestions!

We must be thinking along the same lines as Stanley is one of the names I keep suggesting but OH thinks it's a bit of a comedy name.

I have also been watching tv programmes and films, to get ideas from the characters names. And I was watching the Wire last night! Omar is my favourite but I don't think we could explain to the Grannies why we called the baby Omar! The black police officer with Herc - Carver? or the one with the moustache?

Fergus...would be popular with the Irish in-laws but I'm not keen I'm afraid. I do like Lucas/Luke and Ross so thank you!

The young black officer who is always with that meat-head idiot? Damn, DH doesn't remember his name. I don't like McNutty.

Oh just to add something valuable, I love the name Stanley.

notimetoshop · 03/09/2009 21:05

Omar was cool in that assassin kind of way - possibly not the greatest recommendation for a baby boy's name though.

Who was that gorgeous police officer though, not McNulty, the other one?

SatHereSitting · 03/09/2009 21:02

I'm loving Stanley but I'm not sure why, but I think it's really cool. Toby is really nice too

Lizzylou · 03/09/2009 21:00

OOH, I love the names Toby and George (DS2 was going to be George, but DS1's BF at nursery was called George and we thought it may confuse him!). Mine are Harry (much maligned on MN, but I know of only one other in RL) and Benedict.

izzybiz · 03/09/2009 20:57

My Ds's are Toby and George

I had loads of names when we were naming George, Stanley(his middle name!)
Henry, Isaac, Harry, Max, Jack, Reuben, Jacob, ooh the list could be endless!!!

Lizzylou · 03/09/2009 20:53

I know of a fair few Ethans, but no Lewis's, do know one Louis (who is lovely).

Both my son's names have been mentioned, also my brother's (which I love).

I was like you, found it easy to pick girl's names but much harder with boys names.

We have 2 boys

I do love Gabriel, but think it is becoming popular.

I love:

Theo (getting popular)
Oliver (I know of loads round here)
Alexander
Sebastian
Gregory
William

And most of the others that have been suggested!

50ftQueenie · 03/09/2009 20:51

Hee hee
Notime - DH would be suggesting Omar in that case. He is far and away DH's fav!

notimetoshop · 03/09/2009 20:49

mamalazarou - obviously another Wire fan.

MrsToffeeCrisp · 03/09/2009 20:47

How about Elliot?

Phoenix · 03/09/2009 20:44

Oh yeah we call him Lew or Lewie most of the time

Phoenix · 03/09/2009 20:43

My ds1 is Lewis. We haven't come accross that many where we live. Ds2 is Noah. I love both their names obv

SatHereSitting · 03/09/2009 20:19

I second Louis/Louie it's my ds's name and I always get really positve comments on it. I do know someone whos ds is called Lewis but she calls him Lewie all the time so it works both ways if you liked the name. I have feeling it's gonna be the next big thing, but I'm biased naturally

southernbelle77 · 03/09/2009 20:18

If we had a boy it would be Lewis Ethan, or Ethan Lewis! Lewis because it is a very very sentimental family name to me and Ethan because it's a name that DH and I both love!

MrsBarbaraKingstanding · 03/09/2009 20:14

I love Louis (pronounced Looie) but hate Lewis. Sorry.

I also like:

Gregory
Hamish
Arthur

jellybeans · 03/09/2009 20:07

I like Ethan more than Lewis but it is very popular. I also like

Max
Zac
Flynn
Lucas
Luke
Ross
Nathan
Jake
Ryan
Niall
Sean
