What do you think of Beryl??
I think i am starting to love it, but would love some opinions please (I have no intentions of talking about names in rl as evryone goes [hmm[!).
Does it go well with Eli, Amos, Pearl and Iris?
Is it going to become immensely trendy/faddy as i am really trying to avoid anything faddy if at all possible.
TIA

I like Beryl. It fits in well with Pearl.

Beryl doesn't seem to crusty and old to me. I prefer Meryl though.

magbags · 19/08/2009 20:07

I really don't like it. Does sound to me like an old lady name (and not in a good way).

pogleswife · 19/08/2009 19:59

Just be aware - Beryl the peril ( from the beano or dandy). But in itself a pretty jewel name.

piscesmoon · 19/08/2009 19:53

'I'm not into all these ironic elderly names at all, so can't identify why some are good and others not.

I'm with you TsarChasm-I don't know why anyone wants to revive any of them. People should ask some of the old ladies if they actually like their names-generally they don't! Or not the ones that I have asked.

piscesmoon · 19/08/2009 19:51

NO

TsarChasm · 19/08/2009 19:46

Noooo!

But I don't understand why the mn consensus is no to Beryl when all the other old peoples names that keep cropping up are met with such delight.

tummytickler · 19/08/2009 19:43

abouteve - , Amos is no longer in it though, so i hear!
I might have to look for a character list and make sure i avoid the names!
I will look like a crazy Emmerdale fan!

Thunderduck · 19/08/2009 19:42

Because it just sounds daft that's why.

Remotew · 19/08/2009 19:41

There is an Eli, Amos, Pearl and Beryl from Emmerdale, not sure about Iris but there may have been.

malung · 19/08/2009 19:39

Beryl, would be a good sister for yesterdays Finty. Or not?

tummytickler · 19/08/2009 19:36

Why cant you have Beryl adn Pearl?
No i have never watched Emmerdale, is there a Beryl in it?
That was soooo quick - i was away a few minutes and had 22 posts - jeez you guys are fast!

May I suggest Dilys?

We loved this name but had boys. i think it would go well with your other names.

Not keen on Beryl...although as you keep saying it it has a nice sound to the word...so could be a grower

TaxiLady · 19/08/2009 19:30

my mil is called beryl

hth!

goomum · 19/08/2009 19:27

I think it is great. Ignore the naysayers. You are just a bit before your time in your thinking. It will definitely come back but not in a big way, I reckon. It goes well with your other kid's names too.

Thunderduck · 19/08/2009 19:23

Besides you can't have Beryl and Pearl. It sounds ridiculous.

Thunderduck · 19/08/2009 19:22

It's awful.

Remotew · 19/08/2009 19:17

Hang on, I've just twigged have you been watching Emmerdale OP

SoupDragon · 19/08/2009 19:17

I actually think it's quite pretty and it's growing on my but it's a name from my mother's generation and it's not come back into favour yet. it was our neighbour's name when I was growing up and the name of one of my mother's friends.

LynetteScavo · 19/08/2009 19:09

Well, I would say no, but as I'm really not keen on Amos (and you are, Op) then why not?

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2009 19:08

Ha ha ha, this old-lady name trend has gone TOO FAR!

motomoto · 19/08/2009 19:06

no way, awful

NorbertDentressangle · 19/08/2009 19:05

I don't think theres much danger of it becoming "immensely trendy/faddy" so you've no worries on that front.

Sorry, not keen
