I have some fantastic news.....my friend is heavily pregnant and asked me to choose the baby's name. We don't know the sex of the baby. I have a few names for each sex and would be grateful if you could narrow down two favourites, one girls name and one boys name from the lists below.

GIRLS jasmine cassie harriet dionne miranda BOYS
elliot
demetrio
thomas
cody
saul
george

i know 4 newborn boys and 3 are called thomas, the other alfie. i like jasmin for a girl, and mia. let us all know what you decide

collision · 29/05/2005 14:18

I vote for Cassie and Elliot.

Friend has just called hers Rafferty!

Mine are Max and Joshua and would have been Annabelle and Madeleine if they had been girls.

When I was expecting my first (14 yrs ago), I couldn't decide between Lauren, Holly or Megan for a girl (Lauren won) and we had Thomas for a boy.

Second time round (4 yrs ago), had Fay for a girl and Zach for a boy - thank god we saw sense because he's a gorgeous little Billy (not William or Will). Sometimes, you need to see the baby to realise what name suits.

Someone I knew let their daughter decide their new baby's name, called him Ewan for a few months then changed it to Griff because they really didn't like the first one. Oops

Latest update - close thing on Elliot and Thomas, Harriet just out in front for the girls.

Toothache - had a friend in Zimbabwe called Toby, and the little brother of one of DS1's friends is also called Toby

acnebride · 28/05/2005 22:19

Miranda and Thomas.

What about second names? Jasmine Miranda is lovely - a scented wonder! Thomas Eliot?

My ds is Joel which round here anyway is moderately unusual atm but is racing up the charts. Funnily enough I think it's fantastic.

GhostofNatt · 28/05/2005 21:58

Miranda or saul

AngelCakeUmm · 28/05/2005 21:50

Cassie and elliot

darlingbud · 28/05/2005 21:48

THere is a Jesus at dds toddler club - pronounced hayzoos!

Toothache · 28/05/2005 21:09

I like Cassie and Elliot.

I can't seem to find anybody in RL or MN who has a child with the same name as my ds! He's called Toby. I didn't realise it was that unusual.

What a privelage Oliviagrace.... and a scary one too!

Jasmine and Thomas - but I'm a real traditionalist - don't like anything that sounds vaguely 'made up'

hunkermunker · 28/05/2005 15:22

Names are SO amazingly personal though - a friend of mine suggested Minty for a girl and I laughed because I thought he was joking...he wasn't!

Now half of MNers will tell me their child is called Minty and get all offended with me

Of the names you've listed, OG, I like Jasmine and George best and Harriet and Thomas second.

PinkFluffPudding · 28/05/2005 15:04

harriet / elliot

huggybear · 28/05/2005 14:14

cassie and thomas

i like traditional names like, jonathan, david, andrew and michael but dh always hated my choice for a girl - elsie

rodeo1 · 28/05/2005 14:07

Jaysmummy - I've been p*ssing myself laughing for about 5 minutes, and I've got a cold so I'm a right snotty picture now!

My mum know's a family with an Echo, Rogue, Jesus and Frodo!

rodeo1 · 28/05/2005 13:51

Ooh she must be a very good friend - how lovely. Wouldn't trust my best friend though

I'd say Cassie and Thomas

Rachey1969 · 28/05/2005 13:03

Erm... maybe Miranda (might end up as Randy though?) and Thomas (like traditional names for boys)

Dp and I love Jack but it's been the most popular boy's name now for 10 years! That puts me off. Having 2 ds already, I find boy's names really hard. My dd name is the only one her father and I could ever agree on.
