Boys name ideas please

LaDiDaDi · 14/08/2009 15:03

We found out on Wednesday that we are having a boy and I need some name ideas. We have a dd called Laura and I would like a well known but not very trendy boys name iyswim?

My thoughts so far are

Arthur
Elliott
Simon
Toby
Monty
Peter
Stephen??

but dp isn't struck on any one of them.
Would like a first name and then one middle name.

I like but can't use for family/friend reasons

Michael
James
Edward, could perhaps get away with this
Luke
William

I also really like Rory and Lawrence but they would be ridiculous with a sister called Laura.

Help please .

Leo is nice but not with Laura.

Hugh is good, I'd forgotten that I like that iyswim.

I also like Gregory but surname also starts with a hard "G".

I like Monty from your list.
How about;

Jonty
Jonny/Jonathan
Ian
Gregory
Angus/Gus
Guy
Victor
Sydney/Sid
Ronnie
Hugo
Hug h
Howard

Is that the sort of thing you like?

DiamondHead · 16/08/2009 22:29

I like Arthur and Peter from your list.

Fimbo · 16/08/2009 22:28

Struan is a personal favourite of mine.

Fimbo · 16/08/2009 22:28

Jonathan?

LaDiDaDi · 16/08/2009 22:26

Dp has previously said he likes Noah, will have to ask him if he's still keen.

Archie would have been our choice last time but I've sort of gone of it a bit now.

Fraser is good but it's a colleague's son's name though perhaps that connection is loose enough to ignore?

I really like Toby from your list.

I also think Edward goes nicely with Laura.

It's so hard isn't it? I'm having DS2 in October and I just can't decide.

Glynne · 16/08/2009 18:25

How about Gregory?

Laura and Gregory sounds good.

Or Marcus?

laura and Marcus also sounds lovely.

WinkyWinkola · 16/08/2009 18:21

I like Tobias with the option of Toby.

None of the others.

chichichien · 16/08/2009 18:14

Arthur - no
Elliott - no. It's one of those names which is becoming a girl's name
Simon - no, bit wet
Toby - no, wet
Monty - no. Great Uncle
Peter - yes, good
Stephen - yes

What about MArk? STill seen as too retro?
Joe?
Thomas?

angrypixie · 16/08/2009 18:00

Loving Fergus and Seth, also have a soft spot for Stanley. Was going to suggest Gabriel but not for a christmas baby .

LaDiDaDi · 16/08/2009 17:45

Have been away for the weekend so just back now.

Some of your suggestions are completely ruled out as the names of ex-h or dp (who wouldn't want ds named after him) or bil.

Zachary, Seth, Jacob, Niall, Hamish and Fergus are good ideas. I really like Fergus.

Do you think Nicholas is ok for a Christmas baby or will it seem a bit twee?

Thedollshouse, yeah STephen does nothing for me because most of my friends have a brother/husband or boss called Stephen. Great name, but it needs to rest for a decade more.

MaggieBeauLeo · 14/08/2009 19:49

I like Peter from your list. Nicholas is nice, that'd have been on my own list I think. Dislike Elliot the most. Arthur too trendy and annoying.

In that category or well-known proper solid boys name, but not trendy or popular, I'd suggest

Marcus
Howard/Howie
Victor
Donald/Don
DOminic
Gregory/Greg
Richie
Guy
Julian
Pat rick
Fergus/Gus
Slightly trendier in that urban chic way, Bruce, Julius, Hugo, Hamish

HerHonesty · 14/08/2009 18:01

not sure about arthur and stephen. duncan, dont know why, springs to mind?

mathanxiety · 14/08/2009 17:58

Andrew?
Philip?
George?
Joseph?
Matthew?
I like the Nicholas suggestion. On your list, Toby and Peter stand out.

battlehips · 14/08/2009 17:47

Elliot and Arthur I really like

Raahh · 14/08/2009 17:04

OP, You have fabulous taste- my Ds (6.5) is Elliot Peter!

piscesmoon · 14/08/2009 17:01

How about Nicholas?

piscesmoon · 14/08/2009 17:00

Peter and Stephen

annasmami · 14/08/2009 16:51

I really like Arthur, Elliot and Monty from your list, although I don't think Arthur and Laura work well toghether (too many 'r's).

How about

Quentin?
Tobias?
