What do you think? Is it an old ladies name or fitting for a baby. How would a "Pearl" feel as a teenager next to all those Sophies, Emilys and Sarahs?

I only know one Pearl - and she is an old lady - but if I heard baby with the name I think I would say "ah, sweet"

tummytickler · 02/08/2009 23:10

Melora - that is really sweet. DD has a Sapphire in the year above her at school!

We chose it as i went to school with one and dh new an old one so we thought it was one of those names that are used a little, but through all generations iyswim!

Your parents have great taste!
(BTW do you have siblings - what are they called?)(nosey emoticon here!)

Tummytickler - my name is Pearl, I am 20 and I'm only just starting to like it now. I have never heard of anyone younger than me with my name so that's really nice your little girl is called Pearl too!

When I was born even my grandparents told my mum that it was too old fashioned!

And I agree with what you have said about it not becoming a fad.

On a funny note - when I was in high school I was next in the register to 2 girls called Ruby and Sapphire! The teachers had a right laugh with that one!

i know 3 wee pearls.old lady names are V fashionable

tummytickler · 02/08/2009 22:56

I have a 4 year old Pearl and have never met another one. Lots of people say 'oh thats unusual' and one very old lady called Pearl could't believe it as she hates her name!
but to me she couldn't be anything else (except maybe a Shirley .
I dont think it has or will come back in such a big way that it will seem to faddy or current like something like Ruby or Violet (finger crossed emoticon here!)

No, me neither. I love Maggie and would use it if I had another DD.
I just mentioned it as I think it's important to know these things.

melorablack · 02/08/2009 22:51

I do but I don't think Margaret is too bad anyway..I like kind of like "Maggie"

It's nice but you know it's a shortening for Margaret, don't you?

maggievirgo · 02/08/2009 22:44

I like it. It's rising, so by the time she's 17, our ears would be 'in it' from all the much younger pearls. I know one of 7. she's the only one I know though.

either pearl or nina was to have been my son's middle name!
