What do you think? Is it an old ladies name or fitting for a baby. How would a "Pearl" feel as a teenager next to all those Sophies, Emilys and Sarahs?

I don't like it but then I don't like any of that era such as Ruby, Iris, Ivy,Violet, Elsie etc

WinkyWinkola · 03/08/2009 19:24

Beautiful name.

Puerile association with pearl necklace. I'd not heard of that until my infantile husband sniggered about it.

We have a Pearl in the family, she is now two, her parents call her 'Pearly' or 'pearly pops' as nicknames.

MamaLazarou · 03/08/2009 10:00

Nice name, but just makes me think of the grubby, unpleasant Pearl Lowe, and that god-awful song 'Pearl's a Singer'.

nappyaddict · 03/08/2009 09:50

Interestingly round here there are loads of Kates and Katies but no Kittys that I've heard of.

My car is called Pearl....

melorablack · 02/08/2009 23:41

Oh Iris is lovely, reminds me of "Ivy" which I really like too - you hardly ever hear of them do you?

Dw about being outed...I'm sure I am too lol

And the boys names are gorgeous too - they are names they can grow into but still sound really cute while they are little

I like Cedric with Elijah and Amos.

Yes i do - this will out me i am sure, as there cant be many families with this combo of names .
2 girls Iris and Pearl
2 boys Elijah (Eli) and Amos.

ttc no 5 like Juniper or Aphra or Gladys for dd, and Shem, Clarence, Ephraim or Cedric for a boy (but cant agree on boys!)

dizzydixies · 02/08/2009 23:30

its lovely

melorablack · 02/08/2009 23:26

In the Jacqueline Wilson book "Dustbin Baby" there is a Pearl and April in there too

Do you have any other children tummytickler? What are their names?

AitchTwoOh · 02/08/2009 23:24

i know one wee girl called pearl, it's lovely and really suits her. she is a wee treasure.

tummytickler · 02/08/2009 23:23

Ha ha.
My older daughter was obsessed with Little Bill (Bill Cosbys kids cartoon) when i was pregnant with ds, in which Bills sister is April, so this was her suggestion! We nearly had Pearl and April combo too!(Well if it was up to dd1!)
Nice that your mum put so much thought into it, you all have a connection through your names which i think is lovely.

melorablack · 02/08/2009 23:16

I do I have a brother and sister and now I'm going to have to explain the "meaning" behind our names:

Pearl Patricia Catherine
April Antonia Mary
Josef Joshua Thomas

Notice that the first names are all 5 letters (hence why Josef is spelt the way it is)

1st middle names all end in an "ah" sound.

2nd middle names are all grandparent's/great grandparents names.

Plus, Antonia is a variation of my mum's name (Antoinette) and Patricia and Joshua are also family names.

My mum had way too much time to think that through lol
