Lydia for a girl obviously, and Marcus for a boy?

Like? dislike? bland?
anything else in the same style?

Lydia is in our top 3. So that's approval!

loobylu3 · 26/07/2009 11:37

I like them both. Lydia is beautiful!

serenity · 26/07/2009 11:36

Actually, I agree with Sairs on that. DD wasn't Lydia until she was a day old - she'd actually been Sofia, since the 20 week scan! Sometimes you need to see them first

BakewellTarts · 25/07/2009 21:02

I have a problem with Marcus...I know someone with this name who is an a**e and struggle to get over this. Objectively it should be a good name.

Love Lydia.

Very Romanesque tastes .

janeite · 25/07/2009 21:00

I like Lydia a lot but not Marcus, probably because I've taught a couple of not-so-great Marcuses. How about Lucas?

Sairs · 25/07/2009 20:56

My advice... decide on the big baby day....!

They are lovely names, keep your short list and be surprised on the day. You will just know when you see them for the first time when they are placed on your chest... I was obsessed with name choosing but ended up choosing a name I never even considered when he arrived!

All the best

potatofactory · 25/07/2009 20:50

love lydia

Caro1302 · 25/07/2009 20:42

Lydia is on our (very) short list. My mother hasn't stopped whingeing since I told her as she used to go to school with a horrible girl called Lydia. 50 years ago! Lydia is a beautiful name, classic and timeless.

pointydog · 24/07/2009 23:07

U've always fiound Lydia a bit prim and stiff.

Much prefer Mark. But I know that a Lydia person is always going to prefer Marcus

SloogBoog · 24/07/2009 22:58

My name is Lydia - in fact named after that same Dean Friedman song....I'm one of the only people I know who loves her name. You do get called 'Lyd' all the time, but it's still fairly unusual (though not so unusual people can't spell it). I really appreciate my mum calling me it (she had some terrible other girls names!). I thinks it suited me as a kid and adult - I hope this helps.

RachieB · 23/07/2009 00:38

but not Marcus

thumbwitch · 21/07/2009 13:48

agree with the unusual but not ridiculous comment already posted. both nice solid names which will not widely exist in their generation...

fiona
alasdair
julia
timothy

in much the same vein...

MamaLazarou · 21/07/2009 07:57

They are both lovely names.

sleepsforwimps · 21/07/2009 07:50

I love the name Lydia, not so keen on Marcus though.

Posey · 20/07/2009 21:44

I love Lydia. Did consider it (loved it ever since heard the Dean Friedman song of the same name ) but had a ds. We also considered Marcus ut decided against only because the s sound at the end was wrong with our surname.

So a big thumbsup from me

Clowance · 20/07/2009 21:39

OMG Lydia was my top choice for a DD but I ended up with a DS...and guess what he's called

Paolosgirl · 20/07/2009 21:33

Lydia teapot - I'm so sorry but it's all I can ever think of then I hear that name, although perhaps it's because the regional accent up here would pronounce lid of a teapot/whatever that way.

Marcus is lovely...

coppola · 20/07/2009 21:30

Lydia is lovely

jellybeans · 20/07/2009 21:29

I Love Marcus but not keen on Lydia, bit boring and old ladyish, sorry.

welovepinkmilk · 20/07/2009 18:04

Lydia - gorgeous, Marcus not so much.

Thunderduck · 20/07/2009 17:52

I like Marcus but not Lydia.

Tommy · 20/07/2009 17:50

DS3 was going to be Lydia - I love it.

Not too keen on Marcus myself but, as names go, it's fine!

shoshe · 20/07/2009 17:42

DS2 was Marcus {grin] Brilliant name
