Alison?

I thought I had the name thing sussed (which with 14 weeks to go is pretty good) but lately find myself really liking "Alison". I know it's kind of 70s -there were heaps of them at school and I am in my 30s - but somehow I imagine my Alison to be sparky and outgoing. How do others see it?

I like the name Alison. I know a young woman i respect very much named Alison - outgoing, confident, type i can imagine going rock-climbing and things.

Have i sold it yet?

weegiemum · 12/07/2009 23:08

See I don't think of Alison as 70's cos my mum is Alison!

Susan - that's quality 70's

In my classes were lots of Claire/Clare, Amanda, Gillian, Louise, Elaine, Jane, Karen, Julie, Heather.

tigerbear · 12/07/2009 23:04

Dull and boring, sorry!

Tinker · 12/07/2009 22:59

Think it's a very straight name. Similar to Gillian to me.

hambler · 12/07/2009 22:45

cute as hell.
Love it

MrsSpringsteen · 12/07/2009 21:55

chic totally

pointydog · 12/07/2009 21:54

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/07/2009 21:30

fuck off Ronald!

MrsHappy · 12/07/2009 21:26

I reckon you're right Pyrocanthus - I met a new baby called Lisa the other day. You don't get many of those these days...

all the Alison's I know are fat

Pyrocanthus · 12/07/2009 21:18

I think the 70s names are ripe for a comeback; we must have used up all the old lady names by now, surely. I quite like Alison, but don't mess with the spelling.

Susan
Karen
Julie

Pretty names, which became so overused people stopped appreciating them.

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/07/2009 20:30

Thanks, mrswoolf - did you read that I had posted it is my name?

CrushWithEyeliner · 12/07/2009 19:27

Like it a lot

MrsHappy · 12/07/2009 19:22

Thanks all - I am surprised how many people like it (because it is quite 70s and those names are not exactly trendy right now...), but then I am surprised how much I like it too! Although I am slightly disturbed by Mrswoolf's irrational hatred...

Squeaver - that's exactly what I say whenever someone tells me they have named their baby something hideous!

Jem - I used to love Evan Dando

Hocuspontas - I agree with you re spelling. There will be no random ys or extra letters whatever we go with, I promise!

hocuspontas · 12/07/2009 16:59

I like it and don't spell it any other way like Alysson or Allisonne. I know an Allison and even that looks wrong to me

JemL · 12/07/2009 16:41

I really like it - reminds me of a lemonheads song - "Alison's Starting to Happen" - it's lovely and very different, compared to all the current popular names.

GrapefruitMoon · 12/07/2009 16:31

I love Alison (but I love lots of 70s names!). I would spell it the traditional way (spelling names with a y instead of an i dates them more imo - that is very 70s!) and shorten it to Ali when she is little if Alison seems too grown-up...

i dunno if i think it is boring or not. I think Alyson looks slightly more interesting...NN Lissy or Ally.

HollyBunda · 12/07/2009 15:30

I love it.

jellybeans · 12/07/2009 15:29

I don't like it much, not keen on the ...son names, I hate Ali also.

WannaBeAKitchenGardener · 12/07/2009 14:58

it's lovely and a very refreshing change from all the Graces and Olivias and Charlottes and Lucys

newpup · 12/07/2009 14:47

Ali/Allie is very cool.

I think that it is a name that will become very trendy again in the future. Like daisy/molly/rose/lily enjoying revivals at the moment.

Ali is just a cool name!
