Felix?

Thoughts please? DD is Alice so we are desperately searching for a lovely, but slightly unusual name. We love Oliver and Samuel but there are zillions of them. We've lingered a long time on Arthur but I want another option or two. DS due in 2 weeks.

DH won't have anything that's too 'foreign' - has to be English basically!

So - Felix???? Thoughts please.

Thanks

Let us know what you decide Belgrano. Would love to know what you go for!

makedoandmend · 14/07/2009 10:37

Bugger to the cat connection - Felix is a fab name - I'm sure your Felix will make it his own.

Belgrano · 14/07/2009 10:34

Oh BTW - Max is already used a zillion times over in my family and William is DH's name! Thanks for the suggestion, but sadly neither of those is allowed in.

Thanks so much everyone, lovely responses. I have showed them to DH to try and tip the balance (he was still slightly reluctanct). I also think the cat connection aint too bad - compared to say someone famous who is awful I mean....

Do like Felix, but also think Max and William might fit your bill and both go well with Alice.

Carrotfly · 13/07/2009 08:54

I love the name Felix and its always been on my list for the last 12 years.

DH said no, no, no. Too many feline connections.

I also loved Hugo.

MamaLazarou · 13/07/2009 08:48

Can I be very unoriginal and say 'cat food'?

It's a shame: felix would be a lovely name otherwise.

dragonfruit · 12/07/2009 21:40

we have a Felix and rather like the cat connection. it's shortened to Flick. cool choice. go for it.

MissGreatBritain · 12/07/2009 19:16

My friend has and Alice and a Leon so the two go together in my mind! Love Felix as well though.

suwoo · 12/07/2009 18:45

My DS due in 18 days will be Felix Arthur. .

magbags · 12/07/2009 18:36

Felix is a lovely name imo. It's on our shortlist too for ds due in 6 weeks time. We are also a bit concerned about the cat connection but after working our way through every other boys name we can think of it is still dh favourite by far. I think if you go for it you need to just decide to not be offended by "what like the cat food?" comments. Other names on our list (in case our taste is similar) are:

Oscar
Louis (pronounced Loo-ee)
Alex

Good luck.

chaya5738 · 12/07/2009 09:46

I love love love it!

audley · 11/07/2009 19:37

I like Felix and Arthur equally I think, DS was almost Felix and we are set on Arthur for DS2 (if we have one). I think I prefer Felix with Alice, but it's a close call!

Was sure DS was a Felix, my mum even said hello Felix when he was born, but it just wasn't right on the day. I want to have a couple of choices again next time just in case.

Good luck

moosemama · 11/07/2009 19:19

Actually my FIL's middle name is Felix and we did consider it for ds1, but went with names from my side of the family instead.

Since then PILs have rescued a cat called Felix, he is a beautiful cat, but I am glad my ds doesn't have the same name as him.

tstar · 11/07/2009 13:45

My partner really liked Felix but we did'nt go with it, I think it goes lovely with Alice!
'Try not to put too much pressure on yourself you will figure it out. They are all lovely names. He will be who, he will be no matter what his name is.
Samuel and Alice
Felix and Alice
Oliver and Alice
They are all very sweet.
Good luck.

campion · 11/07/2009 13:30

BTW Samuel is a totally delightful name

campion · 11/07/2009 13:29

I know a lovely Felix and it really suits him. He's 17 now and has never had problems with it - and he ain't called Fifi either

Go for it.

hulabula · 11/07/2009 12:27

I quite like Felix but dh vetoed it... wouldn't be keen on Fifi as a shortening - that does sound like a dog/cat .

I also know a cute 2 year old Quentin, think its definately becoming more popular round here.

mopsyflopsy · 11/07/2009 12:06

No, I'm not having a laugh. My 7 year old nephew is called Quentin and I love it.

I also like Alice very much and think they go well together. Both classic, old English names.

Why would I be having a laugh ?

Belgrano · 11/07/2009 11:41

Fifi? Surely not. That's awful. Rethinking now!!

Quentin? You're having a laugh aren't you?

The only downside to Felix is that it tends to get shortened to "Fifi", which isn't great for a boy! V cute though.

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 11/07/2009 11:33

I love Felix - one of my bf's has a ds called Felix and he is a gorgeous little man. Funnily enough her other dc are Alice and Oliver!!

Felix means "lucky". I would've used it for dd if she'd been a boy.

mopsyflopsy · 11/07/2009 11:26

Not keen on Felix - the cat food connection is just too strong for me too...

What about Henry, Quentin, William - all classic English names that go well with Alice imo.

amidaiwish · 11/07/2009 11:20

i have two very cool friends with children called Felix. personally for me it is a cat's name.

what about Isaac (Zak?). Like Milo too. and Aurelia gorgeous (obv not for boy!)
