HELP cannot settle on a name, cant keep calling him baby!

i had my little boy 2 days ago (2 weeks early) and we cannot pick a name.

surname: O'Dwyer
Bro and Sis: Thomas and Ellen

what on earth can i call him? the only name i like is william and DH wont have it.

poor thing has been called "little man" or "baby" for 2 days now

Maybe it is more of an Ulster Catholic issue, then: it's not that long since naming a boy for 'King Billy' would have been viewed as a straightforward political declaration. Maybe some of the historical sectarian prejudices are slipping away, which can only be a good thing!

Trying to think of famous examples... how about Charles Haughie, former Irish Prime Minister? Must be plenty of others I'm sure.

DH and his family are Irish Catholic and we're planning on William - hadn't occurred to me (or DH) it would be a problem. And Liam is an Irish short form.

Just that not many Irish Catholics call their sons Oliver or William for historical reasons. Sorry if my query was inappropriate.

Glad you've chosen; probably too late to mention now, but with a surname like O'Dwyer, both Charles and William are distinctly Anglo/protestant names: is this an issue for DH?

(charlie to u and me tho )

DH was being stubborn about using charles and he doesnt like it, but i have put my foot down (well i said its charles or william pick cos we are chosing right now!)

Rowan? I think Rowan O'Dwyer sounds lovely and it fits with Thomas and Ellen?

My daughters were going to be called either Eric or Jonah if they'd been boys, if that helps

we have same surname- called our little boy connor, eventhough he looks like a thomas- but you already have a thomas!

How about pushing for William with the shortened form of Liam?

I think it sounds good. I grew up with a couple of Liams and they were always the fit, fanciable, strong boys!
