Quentin or Hugo

Annabelsmummie · 24/06/2009 10:38

We're expecting a boy at the end of October and have managed to narrow our name choice down to our two current favourites: Quentin and Hugo.

Our dd is Annabel.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I like Hugo-we had a pony called that[honestly]

HerHonesty · 24/06/2009 21:52

will you be sending your children to private school? if so, fine. if not well maybe think again.

i actually think hugo is a nice name btw. quentin is a bit erm bleh..

MissClavel · 24/06/2009 21:39

Norman Cook's real name is Quentin. He changed it to Norman which is not even his middle name.

If we're talking about famous Quentins. I do like Hugo though.

sonniboo · 24/06/2009 21:19

I love Quentin - unique and cool!

Hugo is very nice too, but I'd prefer Hugh.

nooki · 24/06/2009 21:16

My 16 year old nephew is Quentin. He absolutely loves his name and is very popular amongst his friends. He often gets called 'Q' or Quen. I really don't think that he has ever got any 'stick' due to his name.

ravenAK · 24/06/2009 21:07

Quentin is excellent. Cool in a 'mad scientist' geeky sort of way...

Hugo's a bit dull & hearty IMO.

wolfnipplechips · 24/06/2009 20:57

helenofsparta Hugo and Hermione are really lovely names.

SalVolatile · 24/06/2009 20:56

OK, names from friends of ds1 and ds2 at famous public school if that helps, include:

Christian
Guy
Henry
Giles
Jake
Hugh
Theo
Patrick
Will
Charlie
Jonno
Jonty
Ru pert
Max
Rob

so pretty much anything goes but I can guarantee that Quentin would get some stick.......

wolfnipplechips · 24/06/2009 20:56

I love Hugo, i wanted to call my ds hugo but dh was having none of it, he is Max instead which is a similar sort of name.

cupcakesinthesnow · 24/06/2009 20:56

I know a couple of child Hugo's and it's a lovely name. The class thing in the UK cannot be denied but imho I really couldn't give a rats posterior if anyone came along and made erroneous generalised assumptions about my child based on a name. A name like Hugo or Quentin has far more positive annotations associated with it than negative imo so I would go with whichever I prefered.

SomeGuy · 24/06/2009 20:49

Hugo was the most destructive hurricane in history when it happened btw. Killed 109.

SomeGuy · 24/06/2009 20:48

Suggestions:

Boris
Hubert
Humphrey
Edgar
Edmund
Rupert
Giles
Ethelred
Toby
Julian
Hugh

Juwesm · 24/06/2009 20:16

I love you MM

Marthasmama · 24/06/2009 20:01

I know a lovely tiny baby called Hugo and it really suits him. Would never have considered it myself, but now I know one I think it's absolutely fabulous. Quentin makes me think of Quentin Crisp...... Or that twunt who used to be on Top Gear, but those cultural references may not be a problem in Europe.

dizzydixies · 24/06/2009 19:56

Hugo Hugo Hugo love it love it love it

Overmydeadbody · 24/06/2009 19:50

Hugo

stillstanding · 24/06/2009 19:48

Quentin is awful. Hugo beautiful. Am really keen on Hugo for our next DS but DH not so keen as thinks to posh ... am working on him though .

Thunderduck · 24/06/2009 19:45

I've changed my mind about Hugo. It's lovely. I don't think it matters if people consider it to be 'poncey',I really hate that word. There's nothing wrong with having a 'posh' name.

PuppyMonkey · 24/06/2009 15:15

Poncey.
