My DD, aged 6, is called Marbella. Do you think it's chav to name DC after places?

If not, what place names do you like as names for DC?

It's prn. Marbaya MrsSchadenfreude. My grandad lives there and I have fond memories of the place.

I like place names and I guess it's all down to tastes and opinions.

Some other names I like are:

Orlando (boy)
Rome (boy)
Roma (girl)
Barcelona...lona for short (girl)
Santiago (boy)
Ohio (girl/boy)
Dakota (girl)
Chihuahua (girl)
Brittany (girl)

Yank - ours would be Hainault, which would be very odd. And what happens if you don't move and have more than one??

scottishmummy · 18/06/2009 23:46

Rimini
lesbos

MrsSchadenfreude · 18/06/2009 23:44

You have daughters called Marbella and Cklarah? Do you pronounce it "Mar-bella" or "Mar-baya"?

Yes, Marbella v chav IMO, but each to their own. Cklarah - won't even go there, except to say, if you're for real, that she will spend her entire life spelling it for people.

scottishmummy · 18/06/2009 23:42

but em peckham SE15 aint classy.a euphemism would be "vibrant"

NumptyMum · 18/06/2009 23:39

(I just didn't want anyone thinking I meant that the Peckham in London WASN'T classy when comparing it with the rather swish deli in West End Glasgow... IYSWIM)

scottishmummy · 18/06/2009 23:35

i meant packhams hyndland

NumptyMum · 18/06/2009 23:34

That would make it a more classy name... not that I know much about the London Peckham. I always like the drive down the M74 when we go past Ecclefechan, have always thought it would make a great non-swear word, but now that I think about it perhaps a name for a DS...? so long as it didn't get shortened to 'Fech'...

sleepsforwimps · 18/06/2009 23:16

We considered calling our dd Rye. Dare I ask, how would it have been received by the world if we had have used it?

scottishmummy · 18/06/2009 23:14

Lotster · 18/06/2009 23:12

scottishmummy · 18/06/2009 23:04

lol then mine would be kitchen floor

Pingpong · 18/06/2009 23:03

hf128219 then my DD would be Edinburgh

GrimmaTheNome · 18/06/2009 23:02

I've always wanted to convince some gullible americans to name their daughters Corby and Whitby.

missmem · 18/06/2009 23:01

You did ask but Marbella is the chavviest name I've ever heard. In fact most are apart from the Scottish ones or Africa, India, Chad are fine if you are African or Indian but not if you're white UK.

Chuffinnora · 18/06/2009 22:59

Not technically a place name Scottishmummy but I agree it's would be a lovely first and middle name for either a girl or a boy.
