both are nice for penelope think penelope cruz rather than keith. Adelaide could be shorten to Adele or Adela. In germanic countries the nickname for Adelaide is Heidi.
I'd go for Penelope Adelaide as middle names are often chosen for a sentimental reason Hope that helps.

Adelaide - has a nice sound to it. Never really liked Penelope sorry (also makes me think of penelope pittstop)

CountessDracula · 24/06/2009 13:59

I don't like Adelaide as

  1. I can imagine Kim from Kath and Kim shrieking it instead of Ebonaaaaaaaaaaaaaay quite easily
  2. It has the word Laide at the end which means ugly in french
peppapig3 · 24/06/2009 13:54

Fair enough although I still like them both!

I'm with boodleboot, they're both pretty grim. If I had to pick, it would be Adelaide.

shivermetimbers · 22/06/2009 17:51

Its nice to you because you haven't got it.

pointydog · 22/06/2009 17:41

Penelope because Adelaide is a place to me.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 22/06/2009 17:35

shut up shiver, it's nice!

shivermetimbers · 22/06/2009 17:34

Not Penelope,awful. Pig, Pitstop etc.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 22/06/2009 17:28

Penelope. I think it's pretty - and not overused. (my sister would disagree, it's her middle name and she HATES it! )

Isn't Adelaide in Australia? Not keen on it. (erm, not because it's in Australia )

alurkerspeaks · 22/06/2009 17:14

My great aunt was Adelaide.

I think it's a great name. Unusual though & I'm sure people will comment.

Evokes the time when she was born and people were emigrating to Australia and their families in the Uk were probably getting letters about all these new and exciting places.

peppapig3 · 16/06/2009 20:00

Actually, I don't know anyone called Adelaide slarty. I just really like it but I can see that it reminds a lot of people of the place. Still, wouldn't be surprised if it becomes more popular as a lot of 'old fashioned' sounding names are at the moment!

posieparker · 16/06/2009 12:07

Oh no, neither. Penelope like the pig girl, ... Keith or my Aunt....no, no, no!

BabyBaby123 · 16/06/2009 12:00

neither, sorry

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 11:58

well i def prefer it out of the two, so if it between penny-lope {bleurgh} and Adelaide then Adelaide wins hands down.....

peppapig3 · 16/06/2009 11:48

boddle, I agree Brooklyn is dreadful but Adelaide is different as it was a name originally and then a place name- like Victoria (Australia)

boodleboot · 16/06/2009 10:31

i HATE the name Penelope. never known a nice one yet.

I really don't like Adelaide either - sorry - it makes me think of Posh Spice for some reason, prob as its a name place/name like the goddawful Brooklyn.

mumoz · 16/06/2009 01:50

I love them both too. Gorgeous for a little girls or an adult. Very elegant and timeless. If I had to choose I'd go with Adelaide but that would be a hard decision as they really are both lovely.

sleepyhead3 · 14/06/2009 12:57

I'm actually going to buck the trend as I like both names a lot!

peppapig3 · 13/06/2009 19:30

Thx all- quite a clear MN preference then!

I hate Adelaide, I think Adele is much nicer than that, but I do love Penelope.
