What do you think of Piper for a girl?

Piper doesn't travel well into other languages. Imagine pronouncing it in German, French or Spanish....

Also sounds masculine to me, don't know why though.

boogiewoogie · 23/06/2009 13:20

Really sorry OP but the only Pipers that I know are both dogs!

Of course there's Piper from "Charmed" and there's Piper Laurie and another Piper who is an American actress.

BunnyLebowski · 23/06/2009 07:58

happyjules - I think the relevant point for me is that it was an old english surname not a feminine first name.

I'm glad you've chosen a name that you love and that suits your littl'un but I really don't like the current Americanised trend for surnames as first names..see also Harper, Emerson, Madison etc

happyjules · 23/06/2009 00:17

Check your baby name books. It's an old English name meaning pipe player obviously! I love it which is just as well as it's dd2's name. She's gorgeous, it suits her and at at least it's not popular! If you like it go for it

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 16:56

It made me think of my dads dog, sorry it is a pretty name, but not sure for a person.

mrsradders · 22/06/2009 16:54

love it i liked it but as i used to watch charmed it was a no from hubby!!

MaryMotherOfGod · 20/06/2009 11:52

Piper At The Gates of Dawn! What an album!

I love the name too

MumGoneCrazy · 20/06/2009 11:49

My DD is called Paige didnt realise it was a chavvy name and yes i named her after the charmed one we have another DD on the way but Dp wont let me use any of the other charmed names

TwoSunnyDays · 16/06/2009 15:53

I would group them together as popular in America

I think Paige Turner sounds fine...

PussyGalour · 15/06/2009 14:32

As long as her surname isn't Turner
Paige is a bit chavvy isn't it ?

TwoSunnyDays · 15/06/2009 13:12

Maybe Paige would be better?

CoteDAzur · 14/06/2009 18:10

Pray she never meets a French man nor has to go to France.

violethill · 14/06/2009 18:04

It's not a name.

KathyBrown · 14/06/2009 18:02

Have a Pippa instead.

Nancy66 · 14/06/2009 17:00

Silly name. Sorry.

Tortington · 14/06/2009 16:40

Piper maris - lovely name

Bonneville · 14/06/2009 16:37

Piper - not really a proper name. Sorry.

cookielove · 14/06/2009 16:33

i love piper, and there is nothing wrong with it being american!!!!

Ninjacat · 14/06/2009 16:26

Pipe in French means Blow Job. Sorry

wolfear · 12/06/2009 09:27

Really cute, but maybe a little too American.

fizzpops · 12/06/2009 08:53

I like it in theory but knowing me I would shorten it to 'Pipes' as a nn.

Plus I have a Poppy... really not a good combination.

MrsMerryHenry · 27/05/2009 13:00

Ha! I did fleetingly have an image of Sissy's blood-drenched character, then hurried it out of my mind.

MrsASHLEYBanjo · 27/05/2009 12:55

Think so. Carrie's, nor Sissy Spacek's

MrsMerryHenry · 27/05/2009 12:51

Piper Laurie was Carrie's mum? She's the only Piper I've heard of but didn't know about the Carrie connection.
