For a girl - what do you think?

Chav images - no mention of a Riley - I am feeling REALLY guilty now!

fortyplus · 27/05/2009 19:53

CheerfulYank - allegedly chav is an acronym - 'council house and violent' but it first appeared a few years ago to describe a group of young people whose 'badge' was Burberry print bags, baseball caps etc. It's become over-used (as you can tell by the fact that respectable people like me have started using it to label some poor unfortunate child whose name we're not keen on!)

hellish · 27/05/2009 04:15

So many Riley/ Reillys here in Canada it's very very popular. Girl and Boy.

CheerfulYank · 27/05/2009 02:50

What does chavvy mean? (Another word I'll soon be accidentally dropping into my vocab I'm sure...the other day I called something "poncey" and my friend almost laughed herself into a fit. ) I'm not a huge fan of Riley. I used to be but it's overused here, along with Bailey/Baylee, Kiley/Kylee/Caylee/Kaylee, etc. It's not as bad as those, but not great IMHO. Your kiddo though, your choice!

fortyplus · 27/05/2009 02:38

Slightly chavvy for a boy - unspeakable for a girl

PrincessLayer · 27/05/2009 01:10

Buffy the Vampire Slayer had a boyfriend called Riley.
And Ian Broudie called his boy Riley (see themildmanneredjanitor's post)
I think it is a great name.
And so does my son.

RachieB · 26/05/2009 23:45

Bad enough for a boy IMO !

Sidge · 26/05/2009 21:57

No, I don't like it for a boy or a girl.

Pineapples · 26/05/2009 21:52

I like Riley for a girl or boy, and it's not 'chav' at all.

Paolosgirl · 26/05/2009 19:11

Eeeuurgh - another made up spelling.

frazzledgirl · 26/05/2009 15:45

A family friend has a girl named Ryley. I think it's horrible, sorry.

random · 26/05/2009 11:32

I like it

Rindercella · 26/05/2009 11:29

Not that keen but Rylee is better than Riley.

jkklpu · 25/05/2009 20:03

bad for a boy and awful for a girl

Lilymaid · 25/05/2009 19:20

It's my mother's maiden name and is a standard spelling for a surname - but no, it isn't a good name for a girl "Old Mother Riley" etc. Also the name of a long defunct British car manufacturer.

magbags · 25/05/2009 19:14

Blimey-o-Riley springs to mind. I'm not keen n this for a girl or a boy tbh.

Ronaldinhio · 25/05/2009 19:13

never except perhaps for a joke

Paolosgirl · 25/05/2009 19:11

Did you make up that spelling?

nickytwotimes · 25/05/2009 19:10

No.
Horrible name, sorry.

3lilgirlsxxx · 25/05/2009 19:10

Yes, iv got a Rylee.

kalo12 · 25/05/2009 19:09

sockmonster · 25/05/2009 19:08

muggglewump · 25/05/2009 18:55

Either way, no.
