What is teaseworthy (in children's minds) about Norby/Norbert? Does it rhyme with something silly?

I don't really like the name (at all, I'm afraid), but just wanted to understand whay children would find teaseworth about it?

Otherwise lots of names mentioned here very common amongst my German great-aunts and great grand parents. Obviously very popular 80-100 years ago, but clearly not ready for a comeback yet !

Brunhilde is beautiful. Hortense as a middle name perhaps?

littlelamb · 03/06/2009 12:05

I actually do know a Norbert. Don't do it. He is known as Norby and is am amazing juggler which does take the sting out somewhat, but his early years were not pleasant because of all the teasing. And yes I know children will always find somehting to tease, but why give them a headstart?

BonsoirAnna · 03/06/2009 11:58

I prefer Dagmar or Gudrun for girls, personally

hobbgoblin · 03/06/2009 11:58

Norbert Dentressangle is THE coolest name ever.

I like both.

wahwahwah · 03/06/2009 11:56

Errr I assumer you are a french/german family?

Norbert is fine is pronounced like the french Nor-berrrrr but Brunhilde... hmmm shortened to Hilda? Not a 'pretty' name for a little birl.

ponynuts · 03/06/2009 11:53

Brunhilde is very butch.

MrsMerryHenry · 20/05/2009 21:12

.....Norbert is a mighty fine name. Watch what you say

MrsMerryHenry · 20/05/2009 21:05

Do you think Knorr and Braun would sponsor my kids through uni if I went ahead with those spellings?

Edeltraut - sounds like a beautiful (if slightly fishy) little white flower.

Paolosgirl · 20/05/2009 21:04

I am liking the homage to Braun!

girlandboy · 20/05/2009 21:04

I've always preferred Edeltraut I'm afraid

MrsMerryHenry · 20/05/2009 21:03

You are SO on my wavelength, Paolo! Why not stick to the brand name thing and make it "Braun"hilde?

I like your style!

Paolosgirl · 20/05/2009 21:01

Well at least give them an unusual spelling - Knorrburt and Broonhilldeh perhaps? Otherwise they'll just be like everyone else

MrsMerryHenry · 20/05/2009 20:58

ilovesprouts...not sure that 'omg' would be all that easy to pronounce...how would you say it?
