Ds1 has it as a middle name.

RedCharityBonney · 15/05/2009 19:34

I quite like it, but I wouldn't use it.

How about Hubert?

dizzydixies · 15/05/2009 18:27

tummytickler - don't be teasing me now

Knax · 15/05/2009 16:40

Not now!

tummytickler · 15/05/2009 16:16

Dizzydixies - if it was down to dh alone another ds would be Herbert so you never know!

I went out with a Bernard at Uni ... he was lovely ... but I still snigger childishly when I think of his name ... I wonder why that one didn't work out!

seeker · 14/05/2009 22:53

If you want to use the name Bernard - or Cedric for that matter, get your dp to change his name. The call the baby something which won't make him hunt you down like a dog as soon as he's old enough to get a gun licence.....

dizzydixies · 14/05/2009 22:46

oh tummytickler you HAVE to use Herbert )Herb) now, I've had 3 DDs and DH won't let me go for a 4th so little Herb will be non existant here

please please PLEASE at least have little Cedric Herbert Tickler for me

Foxinsox2 · 14/05/2009 22:43

Bernard is about the worst name EVER! NO, no, no...

Greensneeze · 14/05/2009 22:41

It was my housemistress's nickname at boarding school

Other than that it's a very sweet name

tummytickler · 14/05/2009 22:40

Dizzydixies - when i had ds we sat in the delivery room trying to decide between Herbert and Amos - they were the only two names that made it that far!
We went for Amos in the end - but we still lile Herbert nn Herb.
Dh loves Hector, but there are quite a few around our way.
My dd was also nearly herbert, but she was a she ant thought she might prefer to be called Pearl and at 4 years old she definately orefers it!
I think Herbert is still in the running, but at the mo, i prefer Cedric, sounds a bit fresher to me - i guess because it is a new love and not an old one!

what about sidney? well old man chic

dizzydixies · 14/05/2009 19:05

lol oodles, thats very true! Bernice anyone?!?

oodlesofpoodles · 14/05/2009 18:34

I know heaps of Bernies. They are all middle aged Irish women.

Weegiemum · 14/05/2009 18:30

I REALLY don't like it, but then I don't get all the old man names around just now .... just shudder NO

dizzydixies · 14/05/2009 15:55

ok so I see the Cedric/Bernard thing and although I wouldn't use them I can see the attraction somewhat

could you possibly consider my favourites though please?

Herbert nn Herb or Herbie
Hector
Arthur nn Art

I love those but having had 3 girls seems unlikely I'll have a little Herb

audley · 14/05/2009 15:20

Hi, my DS was so very nearly a Bernard, DH and I have such different tastes this was nearly our compromise choice. Even announced it to family and had a surprisingly good reaction (from the older generation, silence from the others) Thankfully (!) we changed our mind and went for Barnaby. Must say I am hugely relieved we didn't saddle DS with Bernard, think people may have sniggered.

MrsMattie · 14/05/2009 08:16

Really, really awful.

annasmami · 14/05/2009 08:14

Cedric is a million times nicer than Bernard!!

Nursey.

-Nursey's not my real name?

  • What is your real name?
  • Haha...Bernard!
  • Suits you actually

Sorry

FrankMustard · 14/05/2009 00:23

Actually, Bernard Sumner is cool too...with him and Bernard Cribbins, I'm coming round to the idea of naming a child Bernard!!!

FrankMustard · 14/05/2009 00:19

Wasn't the guy on children's tv who pretended to ride a big bird puppet thing called Bernard or Bernie?

(Sorry OP, we're really not backing you on your name choice, are we!)

stillenacht · 14/05/2009 00:18

it is 70s missmiss and thats where it should stay i reckon..but actually was anyone named Bernard in the 70s or is it just a middle aged mans name in the 70s...so really its very 30s....

FrankMustard · 14/05/2009 00:16

Ooh, I love Bernard Cribbins! He can't possibly be put in the same pile as Manning!
