Isadora

OK, just wondering what people make of the name Isadora/Isidora? I kind of think it's cute, gift from isis, kid could be Izzy or Sadie or Dora even..

hmm, then again maybe it sounds like I want to use Isabella but came up with this to be more original.. thus rendering the name unoriginal...

comments please

Gorgeous name but makes me think of Duncan too. It depends whether that bothers you or not.

zazizoma · 25/05/2009 19:40

I'm with janeite and mrsmattie.

chandellina · 25/05/2009 19:34

i don't get why people see it as a negative that there are connotations to Isadora Duncan, who i've always considered to be an inspiration as a woman and a visionary of modern dance? ok, she died tragically but it's saying something that her legend lives on after a century.

go for it. love the Sadie nickname too.

WinkyWinkola · 25/05/2009 18:39

Gorgeous name.

I wouldn't worry about the tragic Isadora Duncan. Nobody will think of her once you've named your DD. Your DD will become the Isadora, iyswim.

RedCharityBonney · 25/05/2009 17:34

Love it. Totally untroubled by the associations.

violethill · 25/05/2009 17:08

Very pretty name and far less common than Isabella which is an instant advantage. However, as others have said, you have to ask yourself why it's less common.... I think the association with Isadora Duncan is inevitable. I personally wouldn't want to give my child a name that's associated with tragedy - didn't Isadora duncan lose both her children in tragic accidents as well as breaking her neck in the scarf in the car axle accident...I mean, a life can hardly be more tragic can it?

Greensleeves · 25/05/2009 15:43

It is pretty, and the association factor will evaporate once she's here and has her own personality.

Do you like Iolanthe? It's my number one girl name if we ever have another baby [stifled sob]

pania · 25/05/2009 15:36

I thinks it's pretty, but the association with Isadora Duncan ruins it for me and I think a lot of other people feel the same way.

Maybe that's why it's not so common?

Kayzr · 20/05/2009 15:51

OMG I love it!!! Might just have to store it for DC3!!

squeaver · 18/05/2009 21:46

I know one. Known as Dora

FrankMustard · 18/05/2009 21:43

don't like Izzy but Isadora is ok-ish...as long as your surname isn't Jarre...

largeginandtonic · 18/05/2009 21:42

Ssssh Dizzy.

dizzydixies · 18/05/2009 21:26

lol LG&T - you could always have another one

largeginandtonic · 18/05/2009 21:23

i love it! Ooops.

largeginandtonic · 18/05/2009 21:23

Use it is LOVE it!!!!!!!

dizzydixies · 18/05/2009 21:15

I like Isadora but our surname wouldn't work (see above posts re ballerina!)

DD1 is Isabella which we choose in honour of my great aunt BUT DD3 has Ismay as one of her middle names - do you like that? I personally think its really pretty but then I am biased

gladders · 18/05/2009 15:32

know a little girl called isadora and it just sounds so pretentious. it's very long too so gets shortened to dora - which is v cute but no good with so much dora the explorer around?

(disclaimer is that she is a v sweet little girl and her Mummy seems v nice.....)

ninedragons · 18/05/2009 03:32

I love Isadora. I had it on my list for DD until a scan showed she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, and then I got all weird about it.

ViktoriaMac · 18/05/2009 03:13

This is my favourite ever name but dp won't have it, he also thinks only of Wizadora connotations.

MrsMattie · 10/05/2009 19:20

Strangled ballerina.

Lovely name, but strong connotations for me.

lljkk · 10/05/2009 19:18

Sounds Gothic and melodramatic to me.
But go for it if you like it.

Paolosgirl · 10/05/2009 19:12

Love Isadora, hate Isa - it's one of the less attractive Scottish names, up there with Senga and Jamesina.

branflake81 · 10/05/2009 19:05

hideous. sorry.

boodleboot · 10/05/2009 17:06

i like it....would use it myself.....i would have the nickname Dory....i love that fish out of Nemo...x

janeite · 10/05/2009 16:14

Lovely - though Duncan was the first person to come to mind.
