Dp has finally suggested a name - unsure

We're having a girl, and I've told him that I have given up because every name I suggest, he vetoes.

He text me at work earlier with a suggestion, but I'm undecided because of how it sounds.

The name is Tia Nicole. Nicole being the middle name, which for some reason has always been the middle name no matter what first name is suggested.

Does Tia make people think 'Tear'? Or if it wasn't mentioned, wouldn't it cross your mind?

We haven't decided on this yet btw, just looking for opinions first on the above dilemma

I love Kitty - I remeber that thread - is he still being an arse!

Anyway back to Tia, through the course of this thread I like, it but not with Nicole

KAEKAE · 07/05/2009 15:52

straight away Tia Maria sprung up in my mind. Don't like it, sorry. Prefer Mia.

mrspnut · 07/05/2009 10:30

What about Althea, pronounced Altaya, It's a Greek name which sometimes has the th sounded but I prefer it without.

hobbgoblin · 07/05/2009 10:24

I think I'm in a simialr position with my ExDP's suggestion of Kitty. I like Kitty but I'm still not sure about it!

As for Tia, it doesn't make me think tear becaue Tia would be a mispronounciation of tear. Tear is more like Teh, phonetically to me.

What about Thea - if you added an accent to the e then you'd lose the H sound...

hippipotamiHasLost26Pounds · 07/05/2009 08:19

Not too keen on Tia, but love love love Thea which sounds almost the same but looks a bit classier. Would dh be willing to compromise and go for Thea?

fizzpops · 07/05/2009 08:08

Thanks sockmonster! Not sad at all - knowledgeable

lunamoon2 · 06/05/2009 23:16

I know quite a few Tias, not uncommon in my neck of the woods.

I love Tia - I think it's really pretty. But if you're not sure, how about Tea (pronounced Tay-a), like Tea Leoni?

purpleduck · 06/05/2009 16:03

Sorry, meant Tia Nicole

purpleduck · 06/05/2009 16:03

I like Tea with the accent...
Tia maria together does sound kinda stripper ish, but its not like she would be using both all the time..

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 06/05/2009 15:46

Tia is nice, it's Nicole I don't like. That sounds like am 80's stripper

sockmonster · 06/05/2009 15:45

as in Téa.. then again I think it depends on your keyboard, there are also number codes for accented letters-

how sad am I?!

ctrl + ' + letter of choice usually does it

fizzpops · 06/05/2009 14:03

I know! - hence my sadness I couldn't add the accent and show it in its best light! Never mind...

SheWillBeLoved · 06/05/2009 13:38

Fizzpops, I couldn't possibly spell it Tea - not when DP and I are both famous for being a bit too fond of the drink

Heinz - that is a gorgeous name. because Niamh is a name I've always wanted to use, but again, DP had fun vetoeing it!

Plump - Talia was also on my list. Guess what happened to it... go on, bet you can't!

What about Tea with accent on e - pronounced Taya?

not sure about Nicole as middle name, takes it into sugary sweet territory for me. Needs a balance - possibly one syllable.

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 06/05/2009 13:28

I love the name Tia. It's my niece's name and she's beautiful.

(Everyone says she looks just like me..)

Mia and Talia are also pretty, but not Nia, Lia or Leah.

Botbot · 06/05/2009 13:16

Tia Maria means 'Auntie Mary', apparently.

saltcod · 06/05/2009 13:16

I know a Tia & like it. I don't think you should worry about it being confused with tear. It's a definite 2 syllables as opposed to 1 for tear.

HeinzSight · 06/05/2009 13:11

You SO have my sympathy. I've got to go through this again with DH but this time we don't know the sex so it's even worse! ARGH, everything I suggested with DD he vetoed too.

Anyway, in the end he came up with

Niamh Nicole

which is just gorgeous.
